Effects of GSE and vitamins C and E on aspirin- and ethanol-induced gastric ulcer and associated increases of lipid peroxidation in rats were compared. Two experiments were conducted. Rats were randomized into eight groups: a negative control and seven groups that received aspirin or ethanol for ulcer induction: one positive control (vehicle) and six with VC, VE, or GSE (25 and 250 mg/kg). Ulcer indexes and gastric levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) were quantified. VC, VE, and GSE (25 and 250 mg/kg) decreased aspirin, and ethanol-induced ulcers and MDA values compared with positive control group. The magnitude of aspirin ulcer reduction was comparable for all treatments, and MDA decrease with GSE was higher than with VC and tended to be greater, albeit none significantly, than with VE. GSE was more effective than VC and VE for lowering the ethanol ulcers, while the decrease of MDA levels with GSE was greater than with VC, but comparable to that achieved with VE. GSE protected against ethanol-induced gastric ulcers more effectively than VC or VE, while its protection against aspirin ulcers was comparable for all treatments. GSE produced the greatest reductions of gastric MDA in both models.

Chronic inflammation of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth is known as periodontal disease. Human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) are among the greatest prevalent cells in gingival tissue and play a crucial role in oral infections. Data from the GSE dataset revealed that the inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 were up-regulated in periodontitis patients compared to healthy individuals.

Department of Gastroenterology, Huanggang Central Hospital of Yangtze University, No.6 Qi 'an Avenue, Huangzhou District, Huanggang, 438000 Hubei China.

Gastric cancer is one of the major cancers with high cancer mortality and shows significant heterogeneity. The development of precise prognostic models is crucial for advancing treatment strategies. Recognizing the pivotal role of DNA damage in tumor progression, we conducted a consensus clustering analysis of DNA damage-related genes to categorize gastric cancer patients from the TCGA clinical cohort into distinct subtypes.

Targeting PGAM5 attenuates airway inflammation in asthma by inhibiting HMGB1 release in bronchial epithelial.

Chronic Airways Diseases Laboratory, Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, 510515, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Previous studies linked high HMGB1 levels to the development of steroid-insensitive asthma caused by toluene diisocyanate (TDI), highlighting mitochondrial dysfunction in bronchial epithelia.
  • This study aims to determine if PGAM5, a mitochondrial protein, influences HMGB1 release in TDI-induced asthma by comparing its levels in asthma patients and healthy individuals and conducting various animal and in vitro experiments.
  • Findings showed that inhibiting PGAM5 reduced airway inflammation and HMGB1 release in TDI-exposed mice, illustrating a potential regulatory mechanism involving mitochondrial apoptosis-related processes.
