High-quality self-assembled V(2)O(5) nanofiber-bundles (NBs) are synthesized by a simple and direct hydrothermal method using a vanadium(v) hydroxylamido complex as a vanadium source in the presence of HNO(3). The possible reaction pathway for the formation of V(2)O(5) NBs is discussed and demonstrated that HNO(3) functions both as an oxidizing and as an acidification agent. V(2)O(5) NBs are single-crystals of an orthorhombic phase that have grown along the [010] direction. A bundle is made of indefinite numbers of homogeneous V(2)O(5) nanofibers where nanofibers have lengths up to several micrometres and widths ranging between 20 and 50 nm. As-prepared V(2)O(5) NBs display a high electrochemical performance in a non-aqueous electrolyte as a cathode material for lithium ion batteries. Field emission properties are also investigated which shows that a low turn-on field of ∼1.84 V μm(-1) is required to draw the emission current density of 10 μA cm(-2).

The role of oxygen vacancies and interfacial strain on the metal-insulator transition (MIT) behavior of high-quality VO nanobeams (NBs) synthesized on SiO/Si substrates employing VO as a precursor has been investigated in this research. Selective oxygen vacancies have been generated by argon plasma irradiation. The MIT is progressively suppressed as the duration of plasma processing increases; in addition, the temperature of MIT () drops by up to 95 K relative to the pristine VO NBs.

One-dimensional (1D) vanadium oxide nanobelts (VO NBs) with variable V valence, which include VO·HO NBs, VO (B) NBs and VO NBs, were prepared by a simple hydrothermal treatment under a controllable reductive environment and a following calcination process. Electrochemical measurements showed that all these VO NBs can be adopted as promising cathode active materials for lithium ion batteries (LIBs). The Li storage mechanism, charge transfer property at the solid/electrolyte interface and Li diffusion characteristics for these as-synthesized 1D VO NBs were systematically analyzed and compared with each other.

We evaluated the levels of aluminium in a total of 72 samples of 17 different spices and aromatic herbs that are widely consumed in Spain, and in the Mediterranean diet, in general. Aluminium was determined in the samples mineralized with HNO3 and V2O5, using electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectroscopy as the analytical technique. The accuracy and precision of the proposed method was verified against an NBS-certified reference material.

We determined the presence of chromium in a total of 72 samples of 17 different spices and aromatic herbs. Electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry (ETA-AAS) was used to determine Cr content in the samples mineralized with HNO3 and V2O5. The analytical characteristics of the proposed method were tested, and the accuracy and precision was also verified against an NBS-certified reference material.
