We have used nanografting, an atomic force microscopy (AFM)-based nanolithography technique, to fabricate thiolated DNA nanostructures on gold surfaces. The tip-guided assembly offers opportunities for locally controlling the packing order, density, and thus the thickness of the DNA patterns. By selecting proper nanografting parameters, we can embed single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) patches into a background composed of the same DNA molecule prepared by self-assembly, in which the patches remain topographically (and chemically) invisible but have much improved packing order. When the complementary DNA (cDNA) is added, the thickness of the nanografted layer increases much more dramatically than that of the self-assembled layer during the hybridization process, and as a result, the pattern emerges. Interestingly, the pattern can be reversibly hidden and shown with high fidelity simply by dehybridizing and appending the cDNA repeatedly.

The in-depth research on the charge transport properties of BN-embedded polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (BN-PAHs) still lags far behind studies of their emitting properties. Herein, we report the successfully synthesis of novel ladder-type BN-PAHs (BCNL1 and BCNL2) featuring a highly ordered BC3N2 acene unit, achieved via a nitrogen-directed tandem C-H borylation. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis unambiguously revealed their unique and compact herringbone packing structures.

Cholesterol dysregulation, disorder of neuronal membrane lipid packing, and lipid rafts lead to the synthesis and accumulation of toxic amyloid-β (Aβ), contributing to the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our study shows that near-infrared (NIR) transcranial photobiomodulation therapy (tPBMT) can reduce Aβ load and restore the properties of neuronal plasma membrane, including Aβ production, bilayer order, rafts, lipid content, and Ca channels during AD. Mice in the experiments were exposed to 808-nm LED for 1 h daily over 3 months.

Chloroform and other volatile organic pollutants have garnered widespread attention from the public and researchers, because of their potential harm to the respiratory system, nervous system, skin, and eyes. However, research on chloroform vapor sensing is still in its early stages, primarily due to the lack of specific recognition motif. Here we report a mesoporous photonic crystal sensor incorporating carbon dots-based nanoreceptor (HMSS@CDs-PCs) for enhanced chloroform sensing.

In order to enrich the selection of biological ligands, realize the miniaturization analysis, and broaden the application of monolith materials for active ingredients screening and separating, we sough to construct a lipid raft @capillary monolith microcolumn affinity chromatography model. Single factor experiments and various characterization methods, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis, were employed to investigate the polymerization of the monolith column under different material ratios to determine optimal preparation conditions. Subsequently, the lipid raft from U251 cells was integrated with the monolith materials based on epoxy-based covalent crosslinking principle and characterized through SEM and immunofluorescence methods.

The ability of particles to transform absorbed energy into translational movements brings peculiar order into nonequilibrium matter. Connected together into a chain, these particles collectively behave completely differently from well-known equilibrium polymers. Examples of such systems vary from nanoscale to macroscopic objects.
