The paper reviews the information about the role of fast and slow potassium currents in electrical activity of amphibian myelinated nerve fibres. It demonstrates the importance of discovering of fast and slow potassium currents and their following pharmacological separation (by potassium channels blockers 4-aminopyridine and tetraethylammonium) in investigation of mechanisms of biological potentials generation. The information about the existence of fast and slow potassium channels in the nerve membrane and about the properties of 4-aminopyridine and tetraethylammonium action served as a base for determination the nature of biological potentials and discovering the mechanism of potential-dependent action of 4-aminopyridine that for tens of years suffered from the lack of adequate explanation.

Large vertebrate genomes duplicate by activating tens of thousands of DNA replication origins, irregularly spaced along the genome. The spatial and temporal regulation of the replication process is not yet fully understood. To investigate the DNA replication dynamics, we developed a methodology called RepliCorr, which uses the spatial correlation between replication patterns observed on stretched single-molecule DNA obtained by either DNA combing or high-throughput optical mapping.

Kahneman's dual-process model postulates that two systems are involved in decision-making: slow thinking, defined as analytical processing of information, and fast thinking, where decisions emerge from intuitive, automatic responses. Climbers in Olympic bouldering typically engage in slow thinking to interpret movements and explore climbing strategies. However, time constraints imposed by regulations, combined with ineffective decision-making and failed climbing attempts, may compel them to make more intuitive, fast decisions.

A Single-Chain-in-Mean-Field (SCMF) algorithm was introduced to study block copolymer electrolytes in nonequilibrium conditions. This method self-consistently combines a particle-based description of the polymer with a generalized diffusion equation for the ionic fluxes, thus exploiting the time scale separation between fast ion motion and the slow polymer relaxation and self-assembly. We apply this computational method to study ion fluxes in electrochemical cells containing poly(ethylene oxide)-polystyrene (PEO-PS) block copolymers with added lithium salt.

Improving interfacial stability between cathode active material (CAM) and solid electrolyte (SE) is vital for developing high-performance all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs), with compatibility issues among the cell components representing a major challenge. CAM surface coating with a chemically inert ion conductor is a promising approach to suppress side reactions occurring at the cathode interfaces. Another strategy to mitigate mechanical degradation involves utilizing single-crystalline particle morphologies.

Background: Non-thyroidal illness syndrome is commonly observed in critically ill patients, characterized by the inactivation of systemic thyroid hormones (TH), which aggravates metabolic dysfunction. Recent evidence indicates that enhanced TH inactivation is mediated by the reactivation of type 3 deiodinase (Dio3) at the tissue level, culminating in a perturbed local metabolic equilibrium. This study assessed whether targeted inhibition of Dio3 can maintain tissue metabolic homeostasis under septic conditions and explored the mechanism behind Dio3 reactivation.
