Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) acyl-CoA carboxylase is involved in the biosynthesis of mycolic acids, which are a key component of the bacillus cell wall. The Mtb genome encodes six acyl-CoA carboxylase β subunits (ACCD1-6), three of which (ACCD4-6) are essential for survival of the pathogen on minimal medium. Mtb ACCD6 has been expressed, purified and crystallized. The two forms of Mtb ACCD6 crystals belonged to space groups P4(1)2(1)2 and P2(1)2(1)2(1) and diffracted to 2.9 and 2.5 Å resolution, respectively, at a synchrotron-radiation source.

The current study investigated the effects of dietary crude protein (CP) level on the liver lipid metabolism, gut microbiota, and bile acids (BA) profiles of growing pullets. Roman growing pullets (N = 180, 13-wk-old) were divided into 3 treatments groups with 6 replicates in each group and 10 hens in each replicate and provided 3 different dietary CP level diet treatments. The diet treatments included: a high-protein diet (15.

PII proteins are signal transduction proteins that belong to a widely distributed family of proteins involved in the modulation of different metabolisms in bacteria. These proteins are homotrimers carrying a flexible loop, named T-loop, which changes its conformation due to the recognition of diverse key metabolites, ADP, ATP, and 2-oxoglutarate. PII proteins interact with different partners to primarily regulate a set of nitrogen pathways.

Background: Obesity is the underlying risk factor for major metabolism complications, including non-alcoholic-fatty liver disease, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease. The adipose tissue is a vital endocrine organ that plays a role in the synthesis and storage of lipid and, therefore, is a contributory factor to the development and progression of obesity. A growing interest in nutraceuticals suggests that natural products can alleviate the risk factors and may be effective in mitigating obesity.

Mycobacterial cell elongation occurs at the cell poles; however, it is not clear how cell wall insertion is restricted to the pole or how it is organized. Wag31 is a pole-localized cytoplasmic protein that is essential for polar growth, but its molecular function has not been described. In this study we used alanine scanning mutagenesis to identify Wag31 residues involved in cell morphogenesis.
