Visible-light photolysis of [FeCp(η(6)-C(6)H(5)CH(3))][PF(6)] using a simple 100-W bulb or a compact fluorescent light bulb in the presence of terminal alkynes and dppe yielded the vinylidene complexes [FeCp(═C═CHR)(dppe)][PF(6)] that were deprotonated by t-BuOK to yield the alkynyl complexes [FeCp(-C≡CR)(dppe)]. The reaction has been extended to the synthesis of bis-, tris, tetra-, and hexanuclear iron complexes including three alkynes of the ferrocenyl family.

The construction of helical structures through self-assembly and the exploration of their formation mechanisms not only amplify chiroptical properties but also provide profound insights into the structures and functions of natural helices. In this study, we developed a chiral Au(I) system based on BINAP and alkynyl ligands. The modification of the length or number of alkyl chains at the terminal positions of the alkynyl ligands significantly impacted the self-assembly behavior of the complexes.

Planar chirality found tremendous use in many fields, such as chemistry, optics, and materials science. In particular, planar chiral [2.2]paracyclophanes (PCPs) are a type of structurally interesting and practically useful chiral compounds bearing unique electronic and photophysical properties and thus have been widely used in π-stacking polymers, organic luminescent materials, and as a valuable toolbox for developing chiral ligands or organocatalysts.

The Suzuki-Miyaura Coupling (SMC) reaction is a powerful method for forming carbon-carbon bonds in organic synthesis. Recent advancements in SMC reactions have introduced first-row transition metal catalysts, with zinc garnering significant interest due to its cost-effective and eco-friendly nature. Despite progress in experimental protocols, the mechanistic details of zinc-catalyzed SMC reactions are limited.

Metal-alkynyls, an emerging class of functional metal-organic materials, have attracted widespread attention due to their fascinating properties and multifaceted potential applications, such as luminescence, nonlinear optics, liquid crystals, and catalysis. Despite considerable effort toward their synthesis, precise construction of complex metal-alkynyl structures with a high selectivity remains a great challenge. The rise of on-surface chemistry not only offers a route to realizing controlled synthesis of low-dimensional (LD) metal-alkynyls but also provides an opportunity for their in-depth investigations with advanced surface characterization techniques such as scanning tunneling microscopy.
