Of Screening, Stratification, and Scores.

J Pers Med

July 2021

Department of Applied Health Research, University College London, 1-19 Torrington Place, London WC1E 7HB, UK.

Technological innovations including risk-stratification algorithms and large databases of longitudinal population health data and genetic data are allowing us to develop a deeper understanding how individual behaviors, characteristics, and genetics are related to health risk. The clinical implementation of risk-stratified screening programmes that utilise risk scores to allocate patients into tiers of health risk is foreseeable in the future. Legal and ethical challenges associated with risk-stratified cancer care must, however, be addressed.

Vacuolar membrane structures and their roles in plant-pathogen interactions.

Plant Mol Biol

November 2019

Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, 3351 boulevard des Forges, Trois-Rivières, QC, G9A 5H7, Canada.

Short review focussing on the role and targeting of vacuolar substructure in plant immunity and pathogenesis. Plants lack specialized immune cells, therefore each plant cell must defend itself against invading pathogens. A typical plant defense strategy is the hypersensitive response that results in host cell death at the site of infection, a process largely regulated by the vacuole.

Resective surgery in tuberous Sclerosis complex, from Penfield to 2018: A critical review.

Rev Neurol (Paris)

March 2019

Lyon's Neuroscience Research Center, Inserm U1028/CNRS UMR 5292, 69003 Lyon, France; Department of Functional Neurology and Epileptology, Hospices Civils de Lyon and Lyon 1 University, 69003 Lyon, France.

Medically treated patients suffering from tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) have less than 30% chance of achieving a sustained remission. Both the international TSC consensus conference in 2012, and the panel of European experts in 2012 and 2018 have concluded that surgery should be considered for medically refractory TSC patients. However, surgery remains currently underutilized in TSC.

Despite being an effective cancer prevention strategy, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Canada remain suboptimal. This study is the first to concurrently evaluate HPV vaccine knowledge, attitudes, and the decision-making stage of Canadian parents for their school-aged daughters and sons. Data were collected through an online survey from a nationally representative sample of Canadian parents of 9-16 year old children from August to September 2016.

A neurobiological pathway to smoking in adolescence: TTC12-ANKK1-DRD2 variants and reward response.

Eur Neuropsychopharmacol

October 2018

Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London, London, United Kingdom; Centre for Population Neuroscience and Precision Medicine (PONS), MRC Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP) Centre, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London, London, United Kingdom. Electronic address:

The TTC12-ANKK1-DRD2 gene-cluster has been implicated in adult smoking. Here, we investigated the contribution of individual genes in the TTC12-ANKK1-DRD2 cluster in smoking and their association with smoking-associated reward processing in adolescence. A meta-analysis of TTC12-ANKK1-DRD2 variants and self-reported smoking behaviours was performed in four European adolescent cohorts (N = 14,084).
