The excitation quenching by reversible exciplex formation, combined with irreversible but distant electron transfer, is considered by means of the integral encounter theory (IET). Assuming that the quenchers are in great excess, the set of IET equations for the excitations, free ions, and exciplexes is derived. Solving these equations gives the Laplace images of all these populations, and these are used to specify the quantum yields of the corresponding reaction products. It appears that diffusion facilitates the exciplex production and the electron transfer. On the other hand the stronger the electron transfer is, the weaker is the exciplex production. At slow diffusion the distant quenching of excitations by ionization prevents their reaching the contact where they can turn into exciplexes. This is a screening effect that is most pronounced when the ionization rate is large.

The transmembrane potential of plasma membranes and membrane-bound organelles plays a fundamental role in cellular functions such as signal transduction, ATP synthesis, and homeostasis. Rhodamine voltage reporters (RhoVRs), which operate based on the photoinduced electron transfer (PeT) mechanism, are non-invasive, small-molecule voltage sensors that can detect rapid voltage changes, with some of them specifically targeting the inner mitochondrial membrane. In this work, we conducted extensive molecular dynamics simulations and free-energy calculations to investigate the physicochemical properties governing the orientation as well as membrane permeation barriers of three RhoVRs.

Heterostructures comprise two or more different semiconducting materials stacked either as co-assemblies or self-sorted based on their dynamics of aggregates. However, self-sorting in heterostructures is rather significant in improving the short exciton diffusion length and charge separation. Despite small organic molecules being known for their self-sorting nature, macrocyclic are hitherto unknown owing to unrestrained assemblies from extended π-conjugated systems.

MOF-derived Carbon-Based Materials for Energy-Related Applications.

Adv Mater

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering, College of Chemistry, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing, 100029, China.

New carbon-based materials (CMs) are recommended as attractively active materials due to their diverse nanostructures and unique electron transport pathways, demonstrating great potential for highly efficient energy storage applications, electrocatalysis, and beyond. Among these newly reported CMs, metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived CMs have achieved impressive development momentum based on their high specific surface areas, tunable porosity, and flexible structural-functional integration. However, obstacles regarding the integrity of porous structures, the complexity of preparation processes, and the precise control of active components hinder the regulation of precise interface engineering in CMs.

Light induced release of cisplatin from Pt(IV) prodrugs is a promising tool for precise spatiotemporal control over the antiproliferative activity of Pt-based chemotherapeutic drugs. A combination of light-controlled chemotherapy (PACT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) in one molecule has the potential to overcome crucial drawbacks of both Pt-based chemotherapy and PDT via a synergetic effect. Herein we report green-light-activated Pt(IV) prodrug GreenPt with BODIPY-based photosentitizer in the axial position with an incredible high light response and singlet oxygen generation ability.

Commercial SiO Encapsulated in Hybrid Bilayer Conductive Skeleton as Stable Anode Coupling Chemical Prelithiation for Lithium-Ion Batteries.

Although Silicon monoxide (SiO) is regarded as the most promising next-generation anode material, the large volume expansion, poor conductivity, and low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) severely hamper its commercialization application. Designing a multilayer conductive skeleton combined with advanced prelithiation technology is considered an effective approach to address these problems. Herein, a reliable strategy is proposed that utilizes MXene and carbon nanotube (CNT) as dual-conductive skeletons to encapsulate SiO through simple electrostatic interaction for high-performance anodes in LIBs, while also performing chemical prelithiation.
