The hydroxyl radical is the primary mediator of DNA damage by the indirect effect of ionizing radiation. It is a powerful oxidizing agent produced by the radiolysis of water and is responsible for a significant fraction of the DNA damage associated with ionizing radiation. There is therefore an interest in the development of sensitive assays for its detection. The hydroxylation of aromatic groups to produce fluorescent products has been used for this purpose. We have examined four different chromophores which produce fluorescent products when hydroxylated. Of these, the coumarin system suffers from the fewest disadvantages. We have therefore examined its behavior when linked to a cationic peptide ligand designed to bind strongly to DNA.

The aromaticity of a representative sample of pro-aromatic radicals and its nitro, amino, hydroxyl and imine substituted derivatives has been analysed by means of multicentre delocalization indices (MCI) and nuclear-independent chemical shifts (NICS). Because of their radical character, these compounds may exhibit conflicting α/ß aromaticity, so that the contribution of α and β electrons to the MCI and NICS has been analysed separately and their values qualitatively interpreted in terms of the 2n+1/2n rule. All the monocyclic radicals investigated show conflicting α/β aromaticity.

Zirconium dioxide nanoparticles (ZrO NPs) have gained significant attention due to their excellent bioavailability, low toxicity, and diverse applications in the medical and industrial fields. In this study, ZrO NPs were synthesized using zirconyl oxychloride and the aqueous leaf extract of as a stabilizing agent. Analytical techniques, including various spectroscopy methods and electron microscopy, confirmed the formation of aggregated spherical ZrO NPs, ranging from 15 to 30 nm in size, with mixed-phase structure composed of tetragonal and monoclinic structures.

Members of the genus are the conventional medicinal plants used in the therapeutic management of numerous ailments, especially for their antioxidant and pharmacological activities. The crude extract of was profiled using high-resolution GC-MS and LC-MS/MS techniques to determine possible bioactive compounds that are vital to the antioxidant activity. A total of 52 and 63 bioactive compounds have been detected in GC-MS chromatograms using different solvents (methanol and ethanol) in leaf extracts, representing the presence of certain bioactive compounds.

The study aimed to assess the oxidative modification behavior of bovine myofibrillar proteins (MPs) cysteines (Cys) by hydroxyl radical (·OH) through the construction of an in vitr Fenton reaction system. The ·OH generated by the Fenton reaction induced large-scale oxidative modification of Cys, and redox proteomics identified a total of 1192 differential oxidation sites (Dos), 59 Dos were located in the MPs structure. The Cys of actin (17 Dos), myosin/myomesin (16 Dos), tenascin (12 Dos) and sarcomere (10 Dos) in the MPs structure showed active oxidative modification behavior towards ·OH, especially with the "-C-X-X-X-X-W-" structure amino acid sequence showed high sensitivity.
