A strain positive for the metallo-beta-lactamase gene and resistant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole was unexpectedly isolated from a surveillance rectal swab. The characterization of the strain revealed carriage of a 91 kb integrative and conjugative element (ICE) harboring several resistance determinants [, , , , ∆, , and ], closely related with a group of -type ICEs widespread among and other pseudomonads. Results highlighted the possible spreading of similar elements to , mediating the acquisition of relevant resistances.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a leading cause of death worldwide with over 90% of reported cases occurring in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Pre-treatment loss to follow-up (PTLFU) is a key contributor to TB mortality and infection transmission.

Objectives: We performed a scoping review to map available evidence on interventions to reduce PTLFU in adults with pulmonary TB, identify gaps in existing knowledge, and develop a conceptual framework to guide intervention implementation.

Modern language models such as bidirectional encoder representations from transformers have revolutionized natural language processing (NLP) tasks but are computationally intensive, limiting their deployment on edge devices. This paper presents an energy-efficient accelerator design tailored for encoder-based language models, enabling their integration into mobile and edge computing environments. A data-flow-aware hardware accelerator design for language models inspired by Simba, makes use of approximate fixed-point POSIT-based multipliers and uses high bandwidth memory (HBM) in achieving significant improvements in computational efficiency, power consumption, area and latency compared to the hardware-realized scalable accelerator Simba.

A decision-analytic method to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of remote monitoring technology for chronic depression.

Int J Technol Assess Health Care

January 2025

Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA.

Objectives: Advances in mobile apps, remote sensing, and big data have enabled remote monitoring of mental health conditions, but the cost-effectiveness is unknown. This study proposed a systematic framework integrating computational tools and decision-analytic modeling to assess cost-effectiveness and guide emerging monitoring technologies development.

Methods: Using a novel decision-analytic Markov-cohort model, we simulated chronic depression patients' disease progression over 2 years, allowing treatment modifications at follow-up visits.

The intelligent selenium-enriched tea withering control system.

Sci Rep

January 2025

College of Intelligent Systems Science and Engineering, Hubei Minzu University, Enshi, 445000, China.

This paper addresses the low level of intelligence in tea processing equipment in Enshi Prefecture by designing an intelligent withering control system based on the STMicroelectronics 32-bit Microcontroller (STM32). This control system can achieve real-time monitoring of the withering environment and automate the control of heating and ventilation dehumidification modules. By integrating IoT technology, relevant users can view the tea production process via mobile devices, enabling intelligent and remote production operations.
