Objective: This article illustrates the normal and pathologic sonographic appearances of bowel, with an emphasis on diagnostic ultrasound techniques.
Conclusion: The current role of ultrasound for adult bowel evaluation is limited in the United States, with CT emerging as the primary modality for evaluation of the acute abdomen. However, mounting concerns regarding diagnostic radiation and health care costs may affect practice patterns and shift utilization back toward sonography, which is widely available and relatively inexpensive.

Structural firefighters are exposed to an array of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as a result of incomplete combustion of both synthetic and natural materials. PAHs are found in both the particulate and vapor phases in the firefighting environment and are significantly associated with acute and chronic diseases, including cancer. Using a fireground exposure simulator (FES) and standing mannequins dressed in four different firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE) conditions, each with varying levels of protective hood interface and particulate-blocking features, the efficacy of the hoods was assessed against the ingress of PAHs (specifically, naphthalene).

Unlabelled: This study aimed to evaluate pathological findings on abdominal ultrasonography upon admission of children diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) that were associated with a more severe disease course and the need for intensive care unit (ICU) admission. This retrospective and observational study was conducted between March 2020 and May 2022. Abdominal ultrasonography findings were evaluated in children diagnosed with MIS-C associated with SARS-CoV-2.

Introduction: Multiple studies have indicated that isolated abnormal laboratory results necessitate obtaining abdominal computed tomography (CT) for pediatric patients with blunt abdominal trauma (BAT), regardless of the normal abdominal examination. This study aims to identify the predictors of intra-abdominal injury (IAI) and the role of laboratory tests in CT imaging among pediatric BAT patients.
Methods: This is a retrospective review at a Level II pediatric trauma center (2018-2022).

Unlabelled: Acute appendicitis (AA) is the most frequent cause of acute surgical abdomen in pediatrics. During the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdown slowed surgical processes, delaying medical consultations.
Objective: To analyze the impact of the pandemic on the presentation and management of acute appendicitis.

Introduction: Acute appendicitis and acute cholecystitis are two of the most commonly encountered surgical entities. Multiple hypotheses are behind their coexistence, which include pathogen predilection, and mucosal ischemia inducing portal vein bacteremia as the management of uncomplicated acute cholecystitis and acute appendicitis is surgical, for which a single operation for synchronous presentation is effective. Here, we report a case with coexistent acute cholecystitis and acute appendicitis managed at our institution.
