Objective: To evaluate the androgenic and anti-androgenic effects of GH (growth hormone) transgenic carp in male rats.
Methods: Hershberger assay was carried out in castrated male SD rats aged 4-5 weeks. Testosterone propionate (TP) (0.4 mg/kg BW) was administrated for a positive control, GH transgenic carp (3.0 g/kg BW)+TP (0.4 mg/kg BW), parental carp (3.0 g/kg BW) + TP (0.4 mg/kg BW), and flutamide (Flu) (3.0 g/kg BW) were used for negative controls, and vehicle was administered orally for a blank control. All groups were administrated for 10 consecutive days. At the end of the test, animals were anesthetized, then weights of accessory sex organ were measured. Serum testosterone (T), luteinizing hormone (LH), and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) levels were detected.
Results: The weights ratios of the accessory sex organs and body weights showed no significant differences between the solvent control and the GH transgenic carp-treated groups. Serum concentrations of FSH, LH, and T of the rats treated with GH transgenic carp + TP showed no significant changes, compared with those treated with TP only.
Conclusion: GH transgenic carp does not have any androgenic agonist or antagonist properties in vivo screening tests.

SR21, a kind of eukaryotic heterotrophic organism rich in unsaturated fatty acids, is an emerging microbial alternative to fish oil. The dietary inclusion of 15% SR21 was optimal for the growth performance of zebrafish. Previous studies demonstrated that fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase (FBA) of is a valuable broad-spectrum antigen against various pathogens in aquaculture (e.

The clonal triploid ginbuna crucian carp Carassius auratus langsdorfii, a naturally occurring gynogenetic fish, is suitable for cell transplantation studies to reveal the roles of stem cells and immune cells. To ensure long-term traceability of donor cells within recipient fish, we have established a transgenic ginbuna line that expresses green fluorescent protein (GFP). The Xenopus laevis ef1a promoter was introduced for regulating GFP expression.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are highly stable regulators, often accumulated in mammalian brains and thought to serve as "memory molecules" that govern the long process of aging. Mounting evidence demonstrated circRNA dysregulation in the brains of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. However, whether and how circRNA dysregulation underlies AD progression remains unexplored.

Vaccination is the most effective measure to prevent disease outbreaks in fish aquaculture, with oral vaccine administration emerging as the most practical approach. However, oral vaccines face a notable limitation due to insufficient stimulation of the complex gut-associated lymphoid tissue caused by factors such as vaccine degradation, poor absorption, and recognition by the immune cells. An innovative solution to these limitations lies in the plant-based production of recombinant vaccines.
