We report the first experimental realization of an approximate partial transpose for photonic two-qubit systems. The proposed scheme is based on the local operation on single copies of quantum states and classical communication, and therefore can be easily applied for other quantum information tasks within current technologies. Direct detection of entanglement, i.e., without performing quantum state tomography, using the partial transpose operation, is also demonstrated.

The evolution of sex chromosomes can involve recombination suppression sometimes involving structural changes, such as inversions, allowing subsequent rearrangements, including inversions and gene transpositions. In the two major genus Salix clades, Salix and Vetrix, almost all species are dioecious, and sex-linked regions have evolved on chromosome 7 and 15, with either male or female heterogamety. We used chromosome conformation capture (Hi-C) and PacBio HiFi (high-fidelity) reads to assemble chromosome-level, gap-free X and Y chromosomes from both clades, S.

Manipulating plant height is an essential component of crop improvement. Plant height was generally reduced through breeding in wheat, rice, and sorghum to resist lodging and increase grain yield but kept high for bioenergy crops. Here, we positionally cloned a plant height quantitative trait locus (QTL) qHT7.

Pheromones play a key role in regulating sexual behavior throughout the animal kingdom. In and other insects, many cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) are sexually dimorphic, and some are known to perform pheromonal functions. However, the genetic control of sex-specific CHC production is not understood outside of the model species .

In circuit and cavity quantum electrodynamics devices where control qubits are dispersively coupled to high-quality-factor cavities, characteristic functions of cavity states can be directly probed with conditional displacement (CD) gates. In this Letter, I propose a method to certify non-Gaussian entanglement between cavities using only CD gates and qubit readouts. The CD witness arises from an application of Bochner's theorem to a surprising connection between two negativities: that of the reduced Wigner function, and that of the partial transpose.

Hosts and pathogens typically engage in a coevolutionary arms race. This also applies to phytopathogenic powdery mildew fungi, which can rapidly overcome plant resistance and perform host jumps. Using experimental evolution, we show that the powdery mildew pathogen Blumeria hordei is capable of breaking the agriculturally important broad-spectrum resistance conditioned by barley loss-of-function mlo mutants.
