Published: October 2011

We study the transverse momentum dependent factorization for single spin asymmetries in Drell-Yan and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes at one-loop order. The next-to-leading order hard factors are calculated in the Ji-Ma-Yuan factorization scheme. We further derive the QCD resummation formalisms for these observables following the Collins-Soper-Sterman method. The results are expressed in terms of the collinear correlation functions from initial and/or final state hadrons coupled with the Sudakov form factor containing all order soft-gluon resummation effects. The scheme-independent coefficients are calculated up to one-loop order.

Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order Global Analysis of Polarized Parton Distribution Functions.

We present a next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) global QCD analysis of the proton's helicity parton distribution functions, the first of its kind. To obtain the distributions, we use data for longitudinal spin asymmetries in inclusive and semi-inclusive lepton-nucleon scattering as well as in weak-boson and hadron or jet production in proton-proton scattering. We analyze the data using QCD perturbation theory at NNLO accuracy, employing approximations provided by the threshold resummation formalism in cases where full NNLO results for partonic hard-scattering functions are not readily available.

Scenarios with new physics particles feebly interacting with the Standard Model sector provide compelling candidates for dark matter searches. Geared with a set of new experiments for the detection of neutrinos and long-lived particles the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has joined the hunt for these elusive states. On the theoretical side, this emerging physics program requires reliable estimates of the associated particle fluxes, in particular those arising from heavy hadron decays.

Four-Loop Rapidity Anomalous Dimension and Event Shapes to Fourth Logarithmic Order.

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Stanford University, Menlo Park, California 94025, USA.

We obtain the quark and gluon rapidity anomalous dimension to fourth order in QCD. We calculate the N^{3}LO rapidity anomalous dimensions to higher order in the dimensional regulator and make use of the soft and rapidity anomalous dimension correspondence in conjunction with the recent determination of the N^{4}LO threshold anomalous dimensions to achieve our result. We show that the results for the quark and gluon rapidity anomalous dimensions at four loops are related by generalized Casimir scaling.

Selected topics in diffraction with protons and nuclei: past, present, and future.

Rep Prog Phys

October 2022

Department of Physics, Penn State University, University Park, PA 16802, United States of America.

We review a broad range of phenomena in diffraction in the context of hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus collisions and deep inelastic lepton-proton/nucleus scattering focusing on the interplay between the perturbative QCD and non-perturbative models. We discuss inclusive diffraction in DIS, phenomenology of dipole models, resummation and parton saturation at low, hard diffractive production of vector mesons, inelastic diffraction in hadron-hadron scattering, formalism of color fluctuations, inclusive coherent and incoherent diffraction as well as soft and hard diffraction phenomena in hadron-hadron/nucleus and photon-nucleus collisions. For each topic we review key results from the past and present experiments including HERA and the LHC.

Article Synopsis
  • The study conducts a comprehensive QCD analysis of how quarks fragment into pions, focusing on achieving precision at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) accuracy.
  • It combines data from electron-positron annihilation and semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering for the first time to improve the understanding of these fragmentation functions.
  • The researchers investigate the effects of NNLO corrections on the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering data across different kinematic conditions and analyze how this influences the resulting pion fragmentation functions.
