The utilization of biomass has recently attracted tremendous attention as a potential alternative to petroleum for the production of liquid fuels and chemicals. We report an efficient alcohol-mediated reactive extraction strategy by which a hydrophobic mixture of butyl levulinate and formate esters, derived from cellulosic biomass, can be converted to valuable γ-valerolactone (GVL) by a simple supported gold catalyst system without need of an external hydrogen source. The essential role of the supported gold is to facilitate the rapid and selective decomposition of butyl formate to produce a hydrogen stream, which enables the highly effective reduction of butyl levulinate into GVL. This protocol simplifies the recovery and recycling of sulfuric acid, which is used for cellulose deconstruction.

The stability of RNA polymerase II (Pol II) is tightly regulated during transcriptional elongation for proper control of gene expression. Our recent studies revealed that promoter-proximal Pol II is destabilized via the ubiquitin E3 ligase cullin 3 (CUL3) upon loss of transcription elongation factor SPT5. Here, we investigate how CUL3 recognizes chromatin-bound Pol II as a substrate.

Objectives: To assess the diagnostic accuracy, in a validation cohort, of a score based on three CT items, which has shown good performance for predicting ischaemia complicating acute adhesive small-bowel obstruction (SBO).
Methods: This retrospective single-centre study of diagnostic accuracy included consecutive patients admitted for acute adhesive SBO in 2015-2022, who were treated conservatively or underwent surgery within 24 h after CT. The gold standard for ischaemia was an intraoperative diagnosis for operated patients, while the absence of ischaemia was confirmed either by its absence during surgery or by clinical follow-up in patients who did not undergo surgery.

Unlabelled: Coronary angiography (CA) is the gold standard for identifying the presence and extent of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease or dynamic stenosis of the arteries.
Aim: Review of the literature and international clinical guidelines on the evidence of its indications in different clinical scenarios.
Method: Qualitative study through a narrative review of the current indications of the technique, limitations, possible complications and contraindications.

Duck hepatitis A virus type 3 (DHAV-3) is a viral pathogen that causes acute, high-mortality hepatitis in ducklings, and vaccination with attenuated live vaccines is currently the main preventive measure against it. However, differentiating infected from vaccinated animals (DIVA) is crucial for clinical diagnosis and effective disease control. This study aimed to develop a rapid mismatch amplification mutation assay PCR (MAMA-PCR) diagnostic method to simultaneously detect and differentiate between wild-type and vaccine strains.

(1) Background: For the reconstruction of a human vagina, various surgical procedures are available that are often associated with complications due to their failure to mimic the physiology of the human vagina. We recently developed a vascularized, organ-specific matrix from healthy human vaginal wall tissue with suitable biomechanical properties. A superior graft would require further extensive colonization with autologous vaginal cells to reduce complications upon implantation.
