The triacylglycerol (TAG) response to fatty meals containing dried and crushed berries or berry extraction residues was studied in a postprandial cross-over study with healthy normal-weight male volunteers. The berry material included sea buckthorn berries, sea buckthorn CO₂ extraction residue (CO₂-sea buckthorn) and sea buckthorn or black currant CO₂ and ethanol extraction residue (CO₂-EtOH-sea buckthorn, CO₂-EtOH-black currant). Extraction residues were used in order to advance the potential use of valuable side stream components containing polyphenols and fibre as human food. Compared to the berry-depleted control, all berry meals delayed lipemia, whereas there were no differences in the total area under the TAG response curve. The lipemic delay largely derived from the fibre rather than from the polyphenols. Even so, the effect of polyphenols may be complementary since sea buckthorn and CO₂-sea buckthorn showed significant differences in relation to control in a wider range of TAG areas than polyphenol-depleted CO₂-EtOH-sea buckthorn.

(β-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) synthases II), (fatty acid thioesterases), (stearoyl-ACP desaturase), and (fatty acid desaturases) are the vital gene families involved in fatty acid (FA) synthesis in L. However, information on the number and location of these genes and which ones are key to the formation of FAs in fruit seeds and pulp was not complete. Our study aimed to solve this issue using the available genomic sequences and transcriptome data that we obtained.

The modern functional food market is developing dynamically, responding to the growing demand for products combining nutritional and health-promoting values. At the center of this evolution are natural bio-organic extracts, rich in bioactive compounds such as antioxidants, polyphenols, flavonoids, carotenoids, and vitamins, which can enrich traditional food products, including fruit juices, increasing their health-promoting values. The aim of the research was to compare the efficiency of extraction of bioactive compounds from various forms of plant raw material (dried, freeze-dried, frozen material) using innovative techniques: supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and accelerated solvent extraction (ASE).

This study explores the therapeutic potential of ω-3 algal oil (rich in DHA) and ω-7 sea buckthorn oil (rich in palmitoleic acid) in addressing hyperlipidemia and associated metabolic disorders. These oils regulate lipid metabolism through the PPARγ-LXRα-ABCA1/ABCG1 signaling pathway, reducing cholesterol accumulation, oxidative stress, and inflammation. In high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemic mice, supplementation with these oils significantly improved lipid profiles, alleviated hepatic steatosis, and promoted cardiovascular health.

Seabuckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is an excellent plant that has the concomitant function of both medicine and foodstuff with high nutritional and health-promoting properties. As a pivotal bioactive component mainly existing in the seeds and leaves, seabuckthorn protein and its derived peptides have aroused wide attention owing to their multifaceted pharmacological activities, including anti-hypertensive, hypoglycemic, anti-obesity, anti-freeze, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, sobriety, anti-oxidant and anti-neurodegenerative functions. Despite these promising attributes, the application of seabuckthorn peptides as functional food and medicines are impeded due to lack of a comprehensive understanding of pharmacological activities and intricate structure-activity relationship.
