Accurate microvascular morphometric information has significant implications in several fields, including the quantification of angiogenesis in cancer research, understanding the immune response for neural prosthetics, and predicting the nature of blood flow as it relates to stroke. We report imaging of the whole mouse brain microvascular system at resolutions sufficient to perform accurate morphometry. Imaging was performed using Knife-Edge Scanning Microscopy (KESM) and is the first example of this technique that can be directly applied to clinical research. We are able to achieve ≈ 0.7μm resolution laterally with 1μm depth resolution using serial sectioning. No alignment was necessary and contrast was sufficient to allow segmentation and measurement of vessels.

The good combination of high strength and high toughness is a long-standing challenge in the design of robust biomaterials. Meanwhile, robust biomaterials hardly perform fast and significant mechanical property changes under the trigger of light at room temperature. These limit the application of biomaterials in some specific areas.

The architecture supports flexible behavioral decisions across a spectrum of spatiotemporal scales. The proposal emphasizes the combinatorial, reciprocal, and reentrant connectivity-called CRR neuroarchitecture-between cortical, BG, thalamic, amygdala, hypothalamic, and brainstem circuits.

The patterning of functional nanomaterials shows a promising path in the advanced fabrication of electronic and optoelectronic devices. Current micropatterning strategies are indispensable for post-etching/liftoff processes that contaminate/damage functional materials. Herein, we developed an innovative, low-temperature, post-liftoff-free, seed-confined fabricating strategy that can tackle this issue, thus achieving designated patterns of flower-shaped AgBiS nanostructures at either micro- or macro-scale on arbitrary substrates that are either rigid or flexible.

The objective of this study is to show the applicability of various 3D-printed composite curved beams using continuous fibers and their delamination strength when they are subjected to bending loading. Four-point bending tests are configured for comparative research on evaluating the effect of fiber types on the delamination strength and failure mode. Out-of-plane tensile properties are calculated analytically by using experimental data.

The rat supraoptic nucleus (SON) contains magnocellular neurons that project long axons that terminate in the posterior pituitary gland. To perform molecular characterization of these regions, such as transcriptome and methylome profiling, it is necessary to obtain large quantities of high-quality RNA and DNA. Prior methods to isolate molecular material from these small regions required fixing or freezing and laser microdissection of whole tissue, which can compromise recovery and integrity.
