Photoinduced electron transfer in self-assemblies of porphyrins ion-paired with ssDNA wrapped around single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) has been reported. To accomplish the three-component hybrids, two kinds of diameter-sorted semiconducting SWCNT(n,m)s of different diameter ((n,m) = (6,5) and (7,6)) and free-base or zinc porphyrin bearing peripheral positive charges ((TMPyP(+))M (tetrakis(4-N-methylpyridyl)porphyrin); M = Zn and H(2)) serving as light-absorbing photoactive materials are utilized. The donor-acceptor hybrids are held by ion-pairing between the negatively charged phosphate groups of ssDNA on the surface of the SWCNT and the positively charged at the ring periphery porphyrin macrocycle. The newly assembled bionano donor-acceptor hybrids have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and spectroscopic methods. Photoinduced electron transfer from the excited singlet porphyrin to the SWCNTs directly and/or via ssDNA as an electron mediator has been established by performing systematic studies involving the steady-state and time-resolved emission as well as the transient absorption studies. Higher charge-separation efficiency has been successfully demonstrated by the selection of the appropriate semiconductive SWCNTs with the right band gap, in addition to the aid of ssDNA as the electron mediator.

Organic-inorganic formamidinium lead triiodide (FAPbI) hybrid perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have garnered considerable attention in the photovoltaic field due to their narrow bandgap, exceptional environmental stability, and prolonged carrier lifetime. Unfortunately, their insulating ligands and surface vacancy defects pose significant obstacles to efficient charge transfer across device interfaces. In this work, an electrostatic harmonization strategy at the interface using a donor-acceptor dipole molecular attachment to achieve enhanced charge separation capabilities on the QD surface is ventured.

As an emerging class of hybrid materials, donor-acceptor (D-A) hybrid crystals with photoactive organic and inorganic components have gradually become an ideal platform for photochromic materials. Wherein the most available organic components are electron-poor naphthalenediimide, pyridinium, and triazine derivatives, inorganic units are electron-rich polyoxometalates and metal halides. Herein, we introduced pyridinium moieties into the naphthalenediimide core by conjugated bonds so as to increase the electron deficiency of organic species for enhanced photochromic properties.

Simplified quantum chemistry (sQC) methods can routinely compute excited states for very large systems in an "all-atom" fashion. They are viable alternatives to regular multiscale schemes. sQC methods have the advantage of accounting explicitly for all of the environment at a quantum mechanical (QM) level.

Femtosecond laser inscription in a ytterbium-doped silver-containing phosphate glass is demonstrated by achieving 3D highly localized laser-induced silver photochemistry. The produced fluorescent silver nanoclusters lead to high optical contrast in the visible range, showing that the coinsertion of Yb ions is not detrimental to the silver-based photochemistry. We demonstrate efficient energy transfer from these silver nanoclusters to the rare-earth Yb ions, leading to near-IR background-free fluorescence emission.

The effect of conformational dynamics and solvent interactions on the second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) responses of the open and closed forms of a donor-acceptor Stenhouse adduct (DASA) are investigated by a mixed quantum/classical computational approach, which couples molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations. The latter are further combined with various solvation schemes, including polarizable continuum models, hybrid QM/MM approaches using either non polarizable or polarizable electrostatic embedding, and QM/QM' schemes with explicit treatment of a few molecules of the first solvation shell. The performances of the different solvation models are discussed in the context of comparisons with experimental data obtained from hyper-Rayleigh scattering measurements.
