Background: To estimate the efficacy of daily administration of 25 mg mifepristone for the treatment of uterine leiomyoma.
Materials And Methods: A total of 30 women were to receive 25 mg mifepristone daily for a period of 6 months. Abdominal ultrasonography was performed before treatment, at 3 months and after 6 months, to evaluate the leiomyoma size and uterine volume. Endometrial biopsy was done after the treatment. Efficacy was estimated by the reduction in leiomyoma size, uterine volume, and improvement in quality of life.
Results: After 180 days of treatment, there was a 47% decrease in the leiomyoma volume and a 53% decrease in the uterine volume. Symptomatic improvement was noted. Twenty-three of 30 women (75.7%) became amenorrheic after the treatment. Endometrial biopsy after treatment revealed simple hyperplasia in two of 30 women.
Conclusion: 25 mg mifepristone produces reduction in leiomyoma size and uterine volume and produces symptomatic improvement in women with fibroids.

Menopause
January 2025
From the Department of Radiology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.
Objective: To assess the association of systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP) in recently menopausal women with white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume later in life and determine whether short-term menopausal hormone therapy (mHT) modifies these associations.
Methods: Kronos Early Estrogen Prevention Study (KEEPS) was a multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled 4-year mHT trial (oral conjugated equine estrogens or transdermal 17β-estradiol). KEEPS continuation was an observational follow-up of the participants 10 years after the end of mHT.

Purpose: To explore the value of quantitative imaging parameters by enhanced T weighted angiography (ESWAN) and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) for evaluating the expression of Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in endometrial carcinoma (EC).
Methods: Data from 122 patients with EC confirmed by clinical pathology were retrospectively analyzed. According to the number of positive cells stained with HIF-1α by immunohistochemistry, patients were divided into two groups: 65 cases with high expression of HIF-1α and 57 cases with low expression of HIF-1α.

Uterine rupture is a well-known, life-threatening complication of misoprostol use; the incidence is remarkably low. Herein, we report what seems to be the first documented case of uterine rupture following induction of labour for intrauterine foetal death in the second trimester without a uterine scar. A 40-year-old woman with no history of caesarean section or uterine surgery presented with mild lower abdominal pain and mild genital bleeding.

Introduction: Due to the growing medical need for gynecologic robotic surgery, several robotic surgeries may be performed in a single day at high-volume centers. This study evaluated the safety of performing multiple robot-assisted hysterectomies (RAHs) per day by the same surgeon.
Methods: We reviewed the clinical data of patients who underwent robotic surgery from April 2018 to September 2024 at the Department of Gynecology, Yamanashi Central Hospital, and also examined the surgical type, order, and surgeon for each procedure.
