Non-auditory effects of noise involve several systems and functions, the most important of which are the cardiovascular, the vestibular and the psychic. Although several studies correlated noise exposure to some pathologies, like hypertension and anxiety disorders, and recent analysis carried out on cavy explained part of their pathophysiology, their multiple causes and the variability of individual reactions are still important limits to their classification.

Background/objectives: Noise remains an under-discussed type of environmental pollutant, which exerts a wide range of adverse health effects, both auditory and non-auditory. Ensuring that the public has ready access to useful health information online about noise exposure is important. In this regard, evaluating the content of public news articles regarding noise pollution is vital.

Alterations in brain activity and functional connectivity originating residual inhibition of tinnitus induced by tailor-made notched music training.

Hear Res

Tinnitus arises from the intricate interplay of multiple, parallel but overlapping networks, involving neuroplastic changes in both auditory and non-auditory activity. Tailor-made notched music training (TMNMT) has emerged as a promising therapeutic approach for tinnitus. Residual inhibition (RI) represents one of the rare interventions capable of temporarily alleviating tinnitus, offering a valuable tool that can be applied to tinnitus research to explore underlying tinnitus mechanisms.

Occupational exposures are generally complex, workers are exposed with more than one hazardous agent in work environment. Combined exposure to noise and benzene is common in occupational environments. Sub-acute exposure to benzene vapors can induce oxidative stress in serum.

This paper investigates the impact of two non-technical speech feedback perturbations outside the auditory modality: topical application of commercially-available benzocaine to reduce somatosensory feedback from speakers' lips and tongue tip, and the presence of a mirror to provide fully-detailed visual self-feedback. In experiment 1, speakers were recorded under normal quiet conditions (i.e.

Tinnitus is associated with increased extracellular matrix density in the auditory cortex of Mongolian gerbils.

Most scientists agree that subjective tinnitus is the pathological result of an interaction of damage to the peripheral auditory system and central neuroplastic adaptations. Here we investigate such tinnitus related adaptations in the primary auditory cortex (AC) 7 and 13 days after noise trauma induction of tinnitus by quantifying the density of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the AC of Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus). The ECM density has been shown to be relevant for neuroplastic processes and synaptic stability within the cortex.
