The asymmetric unit of the polymeric title salt, [Cs(C(6)H(4)NO(3))](n), comprises a Cs(+) cation and a 6-oxidopyridinium-2-carboxyl-ate anion. The Cs(+) cation is six-coordinated by O atoms derived from two oxido and four carboxyl-ate O atoms; each O atom in the anion bridges two Cs(+) cations. In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding is present and contributes to the stability of the three-dimensional network generated by the bridging O atoms.

The deposition of alkali metals on oxide surfaces has garnered significant interest due to their critical role in enhancing various catalytic processes. However, the atomic-scale characterization of these structures remains elusive, owing to the complex and competing interactions among the oxygen, the alkali metals, and the metal atoms within the oxides. In this work, we grew alkali metals (Na, K, Cs) on the copper oxide films on the Cu(111) surface and found the formation of hexagonally ordered monolayer films.

Three new hexagonal perovskites with CsMMRhCl (M = Na, Ag; M = Mn, Fe) stoichiometry have been synthesized from solution precipitation reactions. These air-stable compounds crystallize as triply cation-ordered variants of the 6H perovskite structure. This structure contains octahedra that share a common face to form MRhCl dimers that are arranged on a two-dimensional triangular network.
