Transcatheter rehabilitation of pulmonary arteries.

Pulmonary arterial stenoses commonly occur in patients with congenital heart disease. Indications for treatment are based around reduction of right ventricular hypertension and equalization of flow to each lung and its constituent segments. There are many treatment approaches for these lesions depending on the anatomy, location and the age of the patient. Although surgical reconstruction remains an option, it is technically challenging and in many cases, the results are disappointing. In the modern era, the majority of these patients are treated with transcatheter therapy, including balloon angioplasty, and increasingly, the use of intravascular stents. In this article, we discuss these issues and deal with both the technical approach to transcatheter therapy and up-to-date results.

"A Bridge-over-the Bar": A Novel Strategy to Prevent Paravalvular Regurgitation during Mitral Valve Replacement for Severe Mitral Annular Calcifications.

Ann Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

Mitral annular calcifications have been known to increase complexity during mitral valve replacement (MVR). Standard procedure requires decalcification followed by reconstruction of the mitral annulus prior to placing the prosthesis. While this is the ideal technique, it is not feasible in every patient due to the associated risks.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has been established as an effective treatment modality in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) and the uptake of TAVI is rapidly growing in the Asia-Pacific region. However, there exist a heterogeneity in the management of aortic stenosis and the use of TAVI among countries in the region. Reasons for these differences include anatomic variations, disparity in healthcare resources and infrastructure, and the lack of consensus on the optimal management of AS in the Asia-Pacific region.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of C-reactive protein to albumin (CRP/Alb) ratio in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with transcatheter intra-arterial therapy combined with molecular targeted agents (MTAs) and programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors.

Methods: Medical records of 271 consecutive patients with HCC receiving this combination therapy in China between 2019 and 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. Prognostic factors for progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were identified using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a safe and effective therapy for patients with severe aortic stenosis. A Stuck leaflet and severe intraprosthetic regurgitation after valve implantation occur rarely but can lead to sudden haemodynamic deterioration. We encountered a case of a stuck leaflet following post-dilatation with the Edwards Sapien 3 Ultra RESILIA valve.

This study aimed to investigate the metabolic mechanisms underlying the combination of patent foramen ovale (PFO) and migraine by assessing metabolite expression before and after interventional occlusion surgery. The study included 11 PFO patients from the Heart Center of Xinjiang Medical University Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, who underwent transcatheter PFO intervention and occlusion surgery between January 2018 and February 2023, and 11 healthy controls. Blood samples were collected pre-surgery, 3 days post-surgery, and 30 days post-surgery for metabolomics analysis.
