In urban areas with a predominance of early to mid-20th century housing stock, islands of children possessing blood lead levels (PbB) in excess of CDC guidelines (>10μg/dL) exist. Many of these children are also exposed to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). The current study examined the impact of Pb-exposure (PbB levels of 1-55μg/dL) with/without concurrent ETS exposure on immune system function in 318 children aged 6-84 months from the urban area of Springfield-Greene County, MO. In this population, 36.5% of children possessed PbB levels >10μg/dL, 62.9% of children came from smoking homes, 51.9% of children were under 2 years of age, and the population was WIC eligible and predominantly of white, non-Hispanic ethnicity. Multiple immune function markers including cell counts, IgE levels, sCD25 (sIL2R) and IL4 concentrations, and titers to common childhood immunizations were analyzed for correlation with Pb and/or ETS exposure. Increased IgE levels (p<0.01) were found in children with PbB levels within CDC Classes II-IV - this finding was primarily attributable to elevated IgE levels in the subpopulation of children with concurrent Pb and ETS exposure. A trend (0.05

Background: Multiparameter immunoblot testing is increasingly used as an alternative to multiple individual IgE analyses for type 1 allergies. This study investigated the performance of an inexpensive immunoblot method, the RIDA qLine allergy test system (R-Biopharm AG), vs. the current gold standard.

Tropomyosin (TM), the primary allergen in crustacean aquatic products, has excellent thermal and digestive stability. In this work, the changes in digestive resistance of TM and allergenicity of TM digestion products induced by ultrasound-assisted cold plasma (UCP) treatment were investigated. The stability of TM to simulated digestion were reduced, especially the simulated intestinal fluid (SIF) digestive resistance.

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by pruritus and a relapsing course, affecting approximately 25% of children and 4-7% of adults. This study evaluated the efficacy, safety, and quality-of-life impact of tralokinumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-13 (IL-13), in treating moderate-to-severe AD in a real-world setting, with a focus on different AD phenotypes.
Methods: An observational cohort of 30 adults treated with tralokinumab for ≥ 16 weeks was analyzed.

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a neglected tropical parasitic disease linked with significant social and economic burdens worldwide. The scientific community has minimal information on echinococcosis in Romanian people, and hospital medical records are the only sources that may be used to investigate its status. A 7-year retrospective clinical study on pediatric patients with CE from Southeast Romania was performed, and 39 children and adolescents were included, aged 2-15 years old.

Allergic diseases commonly coexist, manifesting in a sequence described as the "allergic march". This study aimed to evaluate TSLP's and IL-1β's potential as biomarkers in both single and multi-pediatric atopic diseases like atopic eczema, food allergy, and anaphylaxis and analyze specific SNPs in the TSLP and IL-1β genes to determine their associations with their occurrence and severity. This analysis included 109 atopic children diagnosed with atopic dermatitis, food allergy, or anaphylaxis alongside a control group of 57 non-atopic children.
