The evolution of the profile of nanometer sized water drops on a mica surface has been studied through hydration scanning probe microscopy. A time range from a few seconds down to a fraction of millisecond after the formation of the drop has been explored. This high time resolution has been obtained by sampling a series of statistically equivalent drops. This approach also avoids any probe interference during the drop evolution process.

Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNPs) are promising nanomedicine vehicles due to their biocompatibility and ability to carry large cargoes. It is critical in nanomedicine development to be able to map their uptake in cells, including distinguishing surface associated MSNPs from those that are embedded or internalized into cells. Conventional nanoscale imaging techniques, such as electron and fluorescence microscopies, however, generally require the use of stains and labels to image both the biological material and the nanomedicines, which can interfere with the biological processes at play.

To satisfy the needs of the current technological world that demands high performance and efficiency, a deep understanding of the whole fabrication process of electronic devices based on low-dimensional materials is necessary for rapid prototyping of devices. The fabrication processes of such nanoscale devices often include exposure to an electron beam. A field effect transistor (FET) is a core device in current computation technology, and FET configuration is also commonly used for extraction of electronic properties of low-dimensional materials.

Electronic address:

Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) is a recommended locoregional strategy for intermediate hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), whereas, the effect is insufficient to reverse the immunosuppression tumor microenvironment, and the overall benefits for patients remain to be improved. In this study, a multifunctional microsphere (MS) I-ICT/R848-MS is developed to propose an approach combined with TARE, icaritin (ICT) and immune modulator resiquimod (R848). ICT and iodine-131 (I) radiation can induce immunogenic cell death, which, in combination with R848, will boost dendritic cell (DC) maturation.

February 2025

Insitute for Robotics and Kognitive Systems, University of Luebeck, Luebeck, Germany.

Background: Robotic ultrasound visualises internal organs in real-time for various medical applications without the harm of X-rays. The ultrasound probe is attached to the robot's end effector using custom-developed probe holders. This paper analyzes the impact of different probe holder geometries on the robot's base placement and reachability.

The Impact of Laser Irradiation on Thin ZrN Films Deposited by Pulsed DC Magnetron Sputtering.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

School of Nuclear Science and Technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an 710049, China.

Transition metal nitrides have extensive applications, including magnetic storage devices, hardware resistance coatings, and low-temperature fuel cells. This study investigated the structural, electrical, and mechanical properties of thin zirconium nitride (ZrN) films by examining the effects of laser irradiation times. Thin ZrN films were deposited on glass substrates using pulsed DC magnetron sputtering and irradiated with a diode laser for 6 and 10 min.
