Some differences between erythropoietin biogenesis under the action of natural stimuli and that resulting from testosterone administration are commented. Evidences are presented suggesting that androgens, apart from amplifying erythropoietin production, might exert some action on the stroma as specific erythrocytic tissue. This action could be anabolic or trophic and not erythropoietin dependent, at least to some extent, its effect being applied on the quantitative erythropoietic homeostasis.

Background: Vulvodynia is a multifactorial disease affecting 7%-16% of reproductive-aged women in general population; however, little is still known about the genetics underlying this complex disease.
Aim: To compare polygenic risk scores for hormones and receptors levels in a case-control study to investigate their role in vulvodynia and their correlation with clinical phenotypes.
Methods: Our case-control study included patients with vestibulodynia (VBD) and healthy women.

Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a common form of hair loss. Androgens, such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, are the main causes of AGA. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) can reduce AGA.

Background: Labial adhesions, a frequent gynecological condition in prepubertal girls, occur when the labia minora adhere along the midline. The prevailing hypothesis about their etiology suggests that labial adhesion may occur when the delicate and non-estrogenized labia minora undergo an inflammatory response, triggered by exposure to an irritant environment. Therefore, conservative treatment involves the application of topical estrogen or betamethasone cream.

The Pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis) is a large migratory demersal flatfish species that occupies a top trophic role in the North Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea ecosystems, where it also supports various fisheries. As a first attempt to characterize the endocrine mechanisms driving sexual maturation in this important species, we collected pituitary, ovarian and blood samples from Pacific halibut females captured in the wild that were classified histologically into various female developmental stages. We conducted gene expression analyses of gonadotropin beta subunits in the pituitary and observed that mRNA expression levels of fshb gradually increased throughout vitellogenesis, remained elevated until before ovulation and declined after spawning.

Purpose: To compare the optical coherence tomography (OCT)-based retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and ganglion cell layer (GCL) thickness at the posterior pole, and total macular thickness of women with the polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) versus healthy reproductive age group females.
Methods: The study included 110 eyes of 55 diagnosed cases of PCOS (study group) and 110 eyes of 55 healthy reproductive age group (15-49 years) females (control group). All patients underwent a detailed ophthalmological evaluation followed by an OCT to measure their retinal thicknesses.
