Santos-São Vicente estuary, located in São Paulo State, Brazil, has a history of contamination by inorganic chemicals such as mercury (Hg). In the 1980s the Cubatão was considered one of the most polluted sites in the world as a consequence of the intense industrial activities located in the city close to the estuary. To provide data and evaluate the local biota, total mercury (THg) contents were determined in sediments and in fish, Cathorops spixii, from different areas of the Santos-São Vicente estuary. For comparison, samples were also collected in a non-polluted system with similar hydrochemistry characteristics, the Cananeia estuary. The water characteristics and THg levels in sediment and fish samples confirmed a high human influence in the Santos-São Vicente estuary. The lowest THg values, observed in Cananeia, were evidence of low anthropogenic influence. High values observed in Santos-São Vicente show the necessity for a monitoring program.

Objective: Size at birth is a key indicator of in utero growth. Our objective was to generate sex-specific percentiles for birth weight and head circumference in neonates born between 22 and 29 weeks gestation from pregnancies without hypertension or diabetes and assess differences between vaginal and caesarean births and between singletons and twins.
Methods: We used data from 12 countries participating in the International Network for Evaluating Outcomes in Neonates database from 2007 to 2021.

Unlabelled: Serotonin plays a central role in mood regulation and the development of depressive disorders. The serotonin transporter, the primary regulator of serotonin levels, presents genetic variants that affect its functionality.
Aim: To study whether functional bi-allelic 5-HTTLPR or tri-allelic 5-HTTLPR/rs25531 polymorphisms in the serotonin transporter gene are associated with the diagnosis of depression.

Cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs) are potent secondary metabolites with diverse biological functions. strains primarily produce CLPs of three key families, namely, iturins, fengycins, and surfactins, each comprising structural variants characterized by a cyclic peptide linked to a fatty acid chain. Despite extensive research on CLPs, the individual roles of these analogues and their proportion in driving biological activity have remained largely overlooked.

Gene expression is the first step in translating genetic information into quantifiable traits. This study analysed gene expression in 23 strains across six subpopulations of , shaped by anthropization, under winemaking conditions to understand the impact of adaptation on transcriptomic profiles and fermentative performance, particularly regarding lactic acid production. Understanding the gene expression differences linked to lactic acid production could allow a more rational address of biological acidification while optimizing yeast-specific nutritional requirements during fermentation.
