The aim of this study was to assess the performance of two light-emitting diode (LED)- and two laser fluorescence-based devices in detecting occlusal caries in vitro. Ninety-seven permanent molars were assessed twice by two examiners using two LED- (Midwest Caries - MID and VistaProof - VP) and two laser fluorescence-based (DIAGNOdent 2095 - LF and DIAGNOdent pen 2190 - LFpen) devices. After measuring, the teeth were histologically prepared and classified according to lesion extension. At D1 the specificities were 0.76 (LF and LFpen), 0.94 (MID), and 0.70 (VP); the sensitivities were 0.70 (LF), 0.62 (LFpen), 0.31 (MID), and 0.75 (VP). At D(3) threshold the specificities were 0.88 (LF), 0.87 (LFpen), 0.90 (MID), and 0.70 (VP); the sensitivities were 0.63 (LF and LFpen), 0.70 (MID), and 0.96 (VP). Spearman's rank correlations with histology were 0.56 (LF), 0.51 (LFpen), 0.55 (MID), and 0.58 (VP). Inter- and intraexaminer ICC values were high and varied from 0.83 to 0.90. Both LF devices seemed to be useful auxiliary tools to the conventional methods, presenting good reproducibility and better accuracy at D(3) threshold. MID was not able to differentiate sound surfaces from enamel caries and VP still needs improvement on the cut-off limits for its use.

Background: Double-strand breaks (DSBs) are primarily repaired through non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) and homologous recombination (HR). Given that DSBs are highly cytotoxic, PARP inhibitors (PARPi), a prominent class of anticancer drugs, are designed to target tumors with HR deficiency (HRD), such as those harboring BRCA mutations. However, many tumor cells acquire resistance to PARPi, often by restoring HR in HRD cells through the inactivation of NHEJ.

The present study introduces the idea of a novel fluorescence-based imaging technique combined with a microfluidic platform that enables a precise control of dark transient state populations of fluorescent probes flowing over a uniform, top flat supergaussian excitation field with a constant flow rate. To demonstrate the imaging capability of the proposed detection method, numerical simulations have been performed by considering laser, microscope and flow parameters of experimental setup together with photophysical model and electronic transition rates of fluorescent dyes. As an output data to be assessed, fluorescence image data is simulated numerically for bromine-free carboxyfluorescein and its brominated derivatives having different numbers of bromine atoms.

Objectives: To assess the validity of light-induced and laser-induced fluorescence devices compared to the visual-tactile method for detecting secondary caries around resin composite restorations.
Materials And Methods: The study included 20 participants with 30 resin-composite restored teeth. Restorations' margins were examined using three diagnostic methods: the visual-tactile method (FDI criteria), the light-induced fluorescence camera (VistaCam iX), and the laser-induced fluorescence device (DIAGNOdent pen), and the reference was visual inspection after removal of defective restorations.

Background: Ischemic stroke is a common cause of death worldwide and a main cause of morbidity. Presently, laser speckle contrast imaging, x-ray computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging are the mainstay for stroke diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring in preclinical studies. These modalities are often limited in terms of their ability to map brain perfusion with sufficient spatial and temporal resolution, thus calling for development of new brain perfusion techniques featuring rapid imaging speed, cost-effectiveness, and ease of use.

The fluorescence characteristics of aflatoxin B (AFB) have enabled the development of an effective and non-destructive screening method for AFB in agro-products using fluorescence spectroscopy. However, the complex and varied matrices present in most foodstuffs can significantly distort the intrinsic fluorescence of AFB. In this study, the absorption and scattering properties of vegetable oils were obtained using double integrating spheres (DIS), and fluorescence intensity was obtained using laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technique.
