A novel chemosensor based on unsymmetrical squaraine dye (USQ-1) for the selective detection of Hg(2+) in aqueous media is described. USQ-1 in combination with metal ions shows dual chromogenic and "turn-on" fluorogenic response selectivity toward Hg(2+) as compared to Li(+), Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Ba(2+), Al(3+), Cu(2+), Cd(2+), Mn(2+), Fe(3+), Ag(+), Pb(2+), Zn(2+), Ni(2+) and Co(2+) due to the Hg(2+)-induced deaggregation of the dye molecule. A recognition mechanism based on the binding mode is proposed based on the absorption and fluorescence changes, (1)H NMR titration experiments, ESI-MS study, and theoretical calculations.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) can cause chronic infections, significantly increasing the risk of death from cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A key player in chronic HBV infection is covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA), a stable episomal form of viral DNA that acts as a persistent reservoir in infected hepatocytes and drives continuous viral replication. Despite the development of several animal models, few adequately replicate cccDNA formation and maintenance, limiting our understanding of its dynamics and the evaluation of potential therapeutic interventions targeting cccDNA.

The HIV integrase inhibitor, dolutegravir (DTG), in the absence of eliciting integrase (int) resistance, has been reported to select mutations in the virus 3'-polypurine tract (3'-PPT) adjacent to the 3'-LTR U3. An analog of DTG, cabotegravir (CAB), has a high genetic barrier to drug resistance and is used in formulations for treatment and long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis. We examined whether mutations observed for DTG would emerge in vitro with CAB.

Strawberry viruses are significant pathogenic agents in strawberry. The development and application of efficient virus detection technology can effectively reduce the economic losses incurred by virus diseases for strawberry cultivators. In order to rapidly identify strawberry virus species and prevent the spread of virus disease, a multiplex reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction system was established for the simultaneous detection and identification of strawberry mild yellow edge virus (SMYEV), strawberry vein banding virus (SVBV), strawberry mottle virus (SMoV), strawberry polerovirus 1 (SPV-1), strawberry pallidosis-associated virus (SPaV), and strawberry crinivirus 4 (SCrV-4).
