We identify a dominant mechanism in the interaction between a slender flexible structure undergoing free vibrations in sheared cross-flow and the vortices forming in its wake: energy is transferred from the fluid to the body under a resonance condition, defined as wake-body frequency synchronization close to a natural frequency of the structure; this condition occurs within a well-defined region of the span, which is dominated by counterclockwise, figure-eight orbits. Clockwise orbits are associated with damping fluid forces.

In this work, effects of ozone (O) addition on ethylene-oxygen (CH-O) mixtures are computationally studied through the explosion limit profiles. The results show that the addition of minute quantities of ozone (with a mole fraction of 0.06% in the oxidizer) shifts the explosion limit of the CH-O-O mixtures to the low-temperature regime.

Onset rivalry can be modulated by a preceding stimulus with features similar to rivalrous test stimuli. In this study, we used this modulating effect to investigate the integration of color and orientation during onset rivalry using equiluminant chromatic gratings. Specifically, we explored whether this modulating effect leads to a decoupling of color and orientation in chromatic gratings, resulting in a percept distinct from either of the rivalrous gratings.

Percutaneous mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices are designed for short-term treatment in cases of acute decompensated heart failure as a bridge to transplant or recovery. Some of the known complications of MCS treatments are related to their hemodynamics in the aorta. The current study investigates the effect of MCS on the aortic flow.

Cell chirality is crucial for the chiral morphogenesis of biological tissues, yet its underlying mechanism remains unclear. Cell organelle polarization along multiple axes in a cell body, namely, apical-basal, front-rear, and left-right, is known to direct cell behavior such as orientation, rotation, and migration. Among these axes, the left-right bias holds significant sway in determining the chiral directionality of these behaviors.
