Objective: In this study, the CYP1B1 polymorphism was examined in relationship to recognized risk factors for cardiovascular disease. In particular, this study focused on plasma lipid levels, atherogenic indices, and body composition. Furthermore, this polymorphism was analyzed as a predisposing factor for menopausal symptoms among women during midlife, subdivided according to their menopause status.

Methods: A total of 399 women aged from 39 to 60 years were examined. They were recruited from the western and middle parts of Slovakia. Participants were interviewed during their medical examination, and they were investigated with respect to a variety of aspects such as anthropometric and medical aspects, and a menopause-specific questionnaire was included. The participants provided a saliva or blood sample for DNA genotyping and a blood sample for biochemical analysis.

Results: The Leu432Val genotype demonstrated statistically significant associations with triglycerides, with the ratio of total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and with the logarithm of the ratio of plasma concentration of triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in women in their reproductive period. The mean values were significantly lower in women carrying the Val/Val genotype. Four atherogenic indices showed a decreasing trend in relationship to the CYP1B1 genotypes in women during their reproductive period (in the following order of magnitude: Leu/Leu + Leu/Val vs Val/Val) and an increasing trend among postmenopausal women in the same order. Furthermore, the Val/Val genotype diminished experiences of bloated stomach, of vaginal dryness in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women, and of palpitations in premenopausal women.

Conclusions: The Leu432Val polymorphism may be associated with the lipid profile in midlife women. Moreover, this polymorphism may influence the risk of some menopausal symptoms.

To understand the action mechanism of probiotics against postmenopausal symptoms, we examined the effects of Lactococcus lactis P32 (P) and Bifidobacterium bifidum P45 (P), which suppressed interleukin (IL)-6 and receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB (RANK) ligand (RNAKL) expression in Gardnerella vaginalis (Gv)-stimulated macrophages, on vaginitis, osteoporosis, and depression/cognitive impairment (DC) in mice with vaginally infected Gv, ovariectomy (Ov), or Ov/Gv (oG). Oral administration of P or P decreased Gv-induced DC-like behavior and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-6, RANK, and/or RANKL expression in the vagina, bone, hypothalamus, hippocampus, and colon, while Gv-suppressed bone osteoprotegerin and brain serotonin and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels increased. They partially shifted vaginal and gut dysbiosis in Gv-infected mice to the gut microbiota composition in normal control mice.

Background And Aims: Menopause is a multifaceted condition with several problems. Educational interventions regarding self-care and limiting exposure to menopausal warning indicators can help to minimize problems. As a result, the study aimed to investigate the influence of educational intervention on variables influencing menopausal adaptation.

Current clinical practice guidelines were established by several organizations to guide the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension in men and women in a similar manner despite data demonstrating differences in underlying mechanisms. Few publications have provided a contemporary and comprehensive review focused on characteristics of hypertension that are unique to women across their life spectrum. We performed a computerized search using PubMed, OVID, EMBASE, and Cochrane library databases between 1995 and 2023 that highlighted relevant clinical studies, challenges to the management of hypertension in women, and multidisciplinary approaches to hypertension control in women, including issues unique to racial and ethnic minority groups.

Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common gynecological condition that disrupts women's health due to irregularities in menstrual frequency, duration, and volume, often resulting in a significant impact on daily life and productivity. Accurate diagnosis of AUB is critical but complicated by its varied etiologies and presentations. Recent advancements in imaging techniques, particularly the Morphological Uterus Sonographic Assessment (MUSA), have enhanced the diagnostic precision of uterine pathologies such as fibroids and adenomyosis.
