The size-dependent magnetic properties of nanocrystals are exploited in a separation process that distinguishes particles based on their diameter. By varying the magnetic field strength, four populations of magnetic materials were isolated from a mixture. This separation is most effective for nanocrystals with diameters between 4 and 16 nm.

Background: The infectious hypothesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) suggests that microbes may play a role in pathogenesis by triggering the pathologic cascade or contributing to disease progression. Herpesviruses, such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), have been of high interest in AD and related neurodegenerative diseases, in part due to their ability to establish lifelong latent infection and potentially reactivate. However, further research is needed to fully understand the role of herpesviruses in these diseases.

Bioanalytical sensors are adept at quantifying target analytes from complex sample matrices with high sensitivity, but their multiplexing capacity is limited. Conversely, analytical separations afford great multiplexing capacity but typically require analyte labeling to increase sensitivity. Here, we report the development of a separation-based sensor to sensitively quantify unlabeled polysaccharides using particle motion tracking within a microfluidic electrophoresis platform.

Multicolor microscopy and super-resolution optical microscopy are two widely used techniques that greatly enhance the ability to distinguish and resolve structures in cellular imaging. These methods have individually transformed cellular imaging by allowing detailed visualization of cellular and subcellular structures, as well as organelle interactions. However, integrating multicolor and super-resolution microscopy into a single method remains challenging due to issues like spectral overlap, crosstalk, photobleaching, phototoxicity, and technical complexity.

In this study, we extended a previously developed one-pot double derivatization reaction to establish the first routine isotope-coded multiplex derivatization for vitamin D and its metabolites for application in clinical environments, using commercial reagents, without the need for specialized reagents and advanced synthesis requirements. The original derivatization process consisted of using both a Cookson-type reagent and derivatization of hydroxyl groups. Initially, the analytes are derivatized by a Diels-Alder reaction using 4-phenyl-1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-dione (PTAD), followed by acetylation using acetic anhydride, catalyzed by 4-dimethylaminopyridine at room temperature.

Food allergy is increasingly prevalent and poses notable health risks, which underscores the urgent need to develop reliable and sensitive detection methods for effective identification of food allergens. This study aims to address the limitations of existing methods by developing an immunoassay utilizing bacteriophage/carbon dots (CDs)@silica core-shell nanospheres. Two CDs with different emission wavelengths (513 nm for Green CDs, 645 nm for Red CDs) were synthesized for signal development and amplification.
