Auriculotherapy is a complementary therapy recommended for the treatment of chronic pain. Effectively, the whole of the body's innervation territory is mapped out on the ear auricles, "connected" on the level of the brainstem, the relay station of all the body's sensory information. The therapy consists in inserting semi-permanent needles or localised stimulations in the auricles. The ear point is determined on the basis of neurophysiological reasoning.

Background: Pregnancy induces physiological changes, commonly marked by nausea and vomiting in the first trimester, posing risks for both mother and baby. This study evaluates the effects of auriculotherapy on nausea and vomiting during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Materials And Methods: A randomized clinical trial was conducted in two primary health care centers with 56 Brazilian pregnant women who reported nausea or vomiting in the first trimester.

Use of auriculotherapy to prevent episodic migraine pain has seldom been reported. The aim of this open study was to show that three sessions of auriculotherapy, 1 month apart, using semi-permanent needles decrease frequency and intensity of an attack in patients presenting episodic migraine. A total of 90 patients were randomized to the treatment group (AUR group, = 58) or the control group (C group, = 32).

Background: Postoperative pain following laparotomy for gynaecological diseases is a common problem that requires effective management to ensure patient satisfaction and recovery. Despite the wide use of acupuncture for pain management, knowledge of its efficacy in managing postoperative pain is limited. Previous literature used either acupuncture or auricular acupuncture alone.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role that the NSS-2 BRIDGE device, an auricular field nerve stimulator, may play in reducing opioid requirement and pain in kidney donor surgery. It was not a randomized study. Electrophysiologic studies have demonstrated that the stimulation of the cranial nerves produced by the NSS-2 BRIDGE device modulates the ascending/descending spinal pain pathways, especially at the level of the limbic system.

Introduction: Auricular acupuncture is widely used in the treatment of pain. Recently, the most commonly used method of auricular acupuncture is to embed an intradermal needle into the skin to enhance analgesia through continuous stimulation. We aimed to explore the efficacy and feasibility of this form of auricular acupuncture in the treatment of postoperative movement-evoked pain.
