Cardioselectivity of a single oral dose of metoprolol oral osmotic (OROS) (14/190 mg) and atenolol (100 mg) was compared in 12 patients with reversible obstructive airway disease by assessing the dose-response curve to increasing doses of inhaled salbutamol. The beta-blocking activity of the two drugs, which was determined by measuring heart rate, blood pressure, and derived indexes at peak plasma drug levels, was similar. Both metoprolol and atenolol significantly reduced forced vital capacity and peak expiratory flow, with no difference between drugs. Atenolol but not metoprolol also significantly reduced forced expiratory volume in 1 second and specific airway conductance. Both metoprolol and atenolol shifted the dose-response curve of specific airway conductance to the right. The results indicate that the new OROS delivery system for metoprolol, which produces a relatively constant plasma drug level, provides a cardioselectivity comparable to or greater than that of atenolol at maximum plasma levels.

Exposure to vanadium (V) occurs through the ingestion of contaminated water, polluted soil, V-containing foods and medications, and the toxicity and absorption during the small intestine phase after oral ingestion play crucial roles in the ultimate health hazards posed by V. In this study, the human colon adenocarcinoma (Caco-2) cells were selected as an intestinal absorption model to investigate the uptake and cytotoxicity of vanadyl sulfate (VOSO) and sodium orthovanadate (NaVO). Our results confirmed the cytotoxic effects of V(IV) and V(V) and revealed a greater toxicity of V(IV) than V(V) towards Caco-2 cells.

Background: Prior research indicates a potential link between dyslipidemia and endometriosis (EMs). However, the relationship between remnant cholesterol (RC) and EMs has not been thoroughly investigated. Consequently, looking into and clarifying the connection between RC and EMs was the primary goal of this study.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary metabolizable energy levels on various performance indicators of medium-sized geese, with the goal of predicting the optimal range of these energy levels. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across several databases, including Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, China Science and Technology Journal Database, PubMed, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect, covering the period from January 1, 2000, to July 1, 2024. The gathered studies focused on the impact of dietary metabolizable energy levels on the production performance of medium-sized geese.

This study aimed to investigate the correlation and predictive value of TyG and related parameters with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) MAFLD. This study retrospectively included individuals who underwent health examinations and abdominal ultrasound from July 2021 to June 2024 at the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, Sichuan Province, China. A total of 71,299 subjects' clinical and laboratory data were extracted, the correlation between TyG and related parameters and MAFLD was analyzed via univariate and multivariate logistic regression methods, and the nonlinear relationship between the TyG index and the risk of MAFLD was explored via restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis.

Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design, utilizing data from the 2007-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. A total of 24,342 participants were enrolled in the study, and fatty liver status was assessed by calculating the FLI.
