Anisotropic N=4 super-Yang-Mills plasma and its instabilities.

We present a type-IIB supergravity solution dual to a spatially anisotropic finite-temperature N=4 super-Yang-Mills plasma. The solution is static and completely regular. The full geometry can be viewed as a renormalization group flow from an ultraviolet anti-de Sitter geometry to an infrared Lifshitz-like geometry. The anisotropy can be equivalently understood as resulting from a position-dependent θ term or from a nonzero number density of dissolved D7-branes. The holographic stress tensor is conserved and anisotropic. The presence of a conformal anomaly plays an important role in the thermodynamics. The phase diagram exhibits homogeneous and inhomogeneous (i.e., mixed) phases. In some regions the homogeneous phase displays instabilities reminiscent of those of weakly coupled plasmas. We comment on similarities with QCD at finite baryon density and with the phenomenon of cavitation.

Plasma-Plasma Third Order Phase Transition from Type IIB Supergravity.

Phys Rev Lett

We show that the planar, charged black hole in asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime, dual to the strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma thermal state of large N, SU(N), N=4 super Yang-Mills at finite chemical potential undergoes a third-order phase transition in the grand canonical ensemble to a hairy black hole of type IIB supergravity. The hairy phase is another strongly coupled fluid with a conformal equation of state and can be interpreted as another kind of quark-gluon plasma. This new quark-gluon plasma has less entropy and, therefore, seems to characterize some form of smooth hadronization.

The amplituhedron is a mathematical object which was introduced to provide a geometric origin of scattering amplitudes in super Yang-Mills theory. It generalizes and the and has a very rich combinatorics with connections to cluster algebras. In this article, we provide a series of results about tiles and tilings of the amplituhedron.

We consider the correlator ⟨LKK[over ˜]⟩ of the Lagrange operator of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory and two conjugate two-excitation operators in an su(2) sector. We recover the planar one-loop anomalous dimension of the renormalized operators from this hexagon computation.

Amplitudes at Strong Coupling as Hyper-Kähler Scalars.

Alday and Maldacena conjectured an equivalence between string amplitudes in AdS_{5}×S^{5} and null polygonal Wilson loops in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills (SYM) theory. At strong coupling this identifies SYM amplitudes with areas of minimal surfaces in anti-de Sitter space. For minimal surfaces in AdS_{3}, we find that the nontrivial part of these amplitudes, the remainder function, satisfies an integrable system of nonlinear differential equations, and we give its Lax form.

Integrated Correlators in N=4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory beyond Localization.

Phys Rev Lett

Centre for Theoretical Physics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Queen Mary University of London, London E1 4NS, United Kingdom.

We study integrated correlators of four superconformal primaries O_{p} with arbitrary charges p in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. The ⟨O_{2}O_{2}O_{p}O_{p}⟩ integrated correlators can be computed by supersymmetric localization, whereas correlators with more general charges are currently not accessible from this method and, in general, contain complicated multiple zeta values. Nevertheless, we observe that, if one sums over the contributions from all different channels in a given correlator, then all the multiple zeta values (and products of ζ's) cancel, leaving only ζ(2ℓ+1) at ℓ loops.
