Background: Extreme heat is often associated with elevated levels of human mortality, particularly across the mid-latitudes. Los Angeles, CA exhibits a unique, highly variable winter climate, with brief periods of intense heat caused by downsloping winds commonly known as Santa Ana winds. The goal is to determine if Los Angeles County is susceptible to heat-related mortality during the winter season.

To investigate the spectral characteristics of the fluctuation in ventricular response during atrial fibrillation (AF), R-R interval time series obtained from ambulatory electrocardiograms were analyzed in 45 patients with chronic AF and in 30 age-matched healthy subjects with normal sinus rhythm (SR). Although the 24-h R-R interval spectrum during SR showed a 1/f noise-like downsloping linear pattern when plotted as log power against log frequency, the spectrum during AF showed an angular shape with a breakpoint at a frequency of 0.005 +/- 0.

Objective: To compare the prevalence of silent myocardial ischaemia associated with coronary artery disease in diabetic subjects with that in controls of similar age and sex.
Design: A controlled study in which subjects with positive findings on exercise electrocardiography, 24 hour electrocardiographic recording, or dynamic thallium scintigraphy (diabetics only) underwent coronary angiography.
Setting: Academic medical centre; referral based cardiology clinic.
The use of the long term Ecg (dynamic Ecg) in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) has been investigated in 83 patients and its sensitivity compared with the double Master two step test. The average ECG registration time was 8 hours. The presence of CAD was assumed when the clinical index according to Cohn et al.
