Background: Despite growing concern regarding over-prescription of narcotic pain medication following ambulatory surgery, little is known about the analgesic prescribing practices following endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) in obese patients in comparison to non-obese patients.
Objective: To compare the rates of opioid versus non-opioid prescriptions, the need for steroids, and post-operative adverse events between obese and non-obese adult patients undergoing ESS.
Methods: Using TriNetX Live database, we identified all patients aged ≥18 years who underwent ESS (n = 1303) between 2014 and 2022 across several healthcare institutions across the state of Tennessee.

Iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome is a life-threatening condition which requires an early diagnosis multidisciplinary approach. Despite reports of iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome following nasal or inhaled steroids, its development after topical betamethasone eye drops for a short duration is a less frequently reported or anticipated condition. We describe a 6-week-old infant who developed exogenous Cushing's syndrome following topical steroids after bilateral goniotomy for newborn glaucoma.

Glucocorticosteroids are key anti-inflammatory agents in the treatment of ophthalmic and systemic inflammatory diseases. However, prolonged use may result in an increase in intraocular pressure followed by a potentially vision -threatening ocular complication as glaucomatous neuropathy ultimately leading to blindness. Steroid therapy can increase intraocular pressure not only with ophthalmic preparations, but also with other routes of administration such as inhalational, intranasal and systemic.

Asthma and inflammatory airway diseases restrict airflow in the lung, compromising gas exchange and lung function. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) can reduce inflammation, control symptoms, and improve lung function; however, a growing number of patients with severe asthma do not benefit from ICS. Using bronchial airway epithelial brushings from patients with severe asthma or primary human cells, we delineated a corticosteroid-driven fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-dependent inflammatory axis, with FGF-responsive fibroblasts promoting downstream granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) production, hyaluronan secretion, and neutrophilic inflammation.
