During the implantation process of cardiovascular implants, vascular damage caused by inflammation occurs, and the inflammatory process is accompanied by oxidative stress. Currently, carbon monoxide (CO) has been demonstrated to exhibit various biological effects including vasodilatation, antithrombotic, anti-inflammatory, apoptosis-inducing and antiproliferative properties. In this study, hemoglobin/epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) core-shell nanoparticle-containing coating on stainless steel was prepared for CO loading and inflammation modulation.

The glycocalyx is a layer of villus-like structure covering the luminal surface of vascular endothelial cells. Damage to the glycocalyx has been proven linked to the development of many diseases. However, the factors that promote damage to the glycocalyx are not fully elaborated.

Background: as we look to extend lung perfusion times (EVLP) to improve preservation, the metabolic activity of the lungs will require support from other organ functions. Active functional liver support, including detoxification, synthesis, and regulation, can improve lung preservation during EVLP. This study aimed to demonstrate the effects of hepatic conditioning of the EVLP perfusate on lung endothelium, via the receptor of advanced glycation end-products (RAGE)-nuclear-factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling in vitro.

Background: Hyperglycemia is a major contributor to endothelial dysfunction and blood vessel damage, leading to severe diabetic microvascular complications. Despite the growing body of research on the underlying mechanisms of endothelial cell (EC) dysfunction, the available drugs based on current knowledge fall short of effectively alleviating these complications. Therefore, our endeavor to explore novel insights into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction is crucial for the field.

A 53-year-old woman undergoing combination therapy with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) inhibitors for advanced lung cancer with brain metastases developed pustules and punctate purpura on both lower extremities. Histopathological examination revealed neutrophilic infiltration around the hair follicles and erythrocyte extravasation in the perivascular regions near the hair roots, leading to a diagnosis of purpuric papulopustular eruptions. The rash improved with oral doxycycline (100 mg/day) and topical corticosteroids.
