[The discourse on mental disorders in the Hispanic short novel: Amado Nervo's case].

Asclepio

Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, México D.F.

Published: October 2012

The evolution of Amado Nervo's novellas shows a constant communication with the paradigmatic shifts in the field of psychopathology. His metafictional constructs foreground a playful treatment of some of medicine's key ideas. In some cases, the narrow limits of positivistic psychopathology are overcome in order to anticipate notions that obtain scientific status with modern psychology.

Effect of Pediococcus acidilactici and mango seed polyphenols on the fermentative profile of the indigestible fraction of yam bean.

Food Res Int

February 2024

Tecnológico Nacional de México, Instituto Tecnológico de Tepic, Av. Tecnológico No 2595, Col. Lagos del Country, Tepic, Nayarit CP 63175, Mexico. Electronic address:

Yam bean is an important source of dietary fiber and other components that comprise the total indigestible fraction (TIF), which can be fermented by the colonic microbiota and produce metabolites with beneficial health effects. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro colonic fermentation of yam bean TIF and the changes caused by the addition of a polyphenolic extract of mango seed and the lactic acid bacteria Pediococcus acidilactici. The mango seed extract was obtained by ultrasound-assisted extraction, and the microbial growth rate and viability of P.

Estimating the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on alternative semi-intensive shrimp () production schedules in Mexico: a stochastic bioeconomic approach.

Aquac Int

August 2022

Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste (CIBNOR), Av. Instituto Politécnico Nacional 195, Col. Playa Palo de Sta. Rita, 23096 La Paz, B.C.S Mexico.

This study uses a stochastic bioeconomic approach to estimate the COVID-19 pandemic economic impact on shrimp farming in Mexico. Seeding-harvesting schedules - March-June, May-August, and August-November - were analyzed using shrimp prices and production costs corresponding to 2017-2019 (pre-pandemic) and 2020 (pandemic). The analyses estimated net revenue varied within 597.

Bioactivity of peptides obtained from poultry by-products: A review.

Food Chem X

March 2022

Integral Research Laboratory Food, Instituto Tecnológico de Tepic, Av. Tecnológico 2595, Col. Lagos del Country 63175, Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico.

The production and consumption of poultry products (chicken, duck, and turkey) are continually growing throughout the world, leading to the generation of thousands of tons of organic by-products, which may be important sources of bioactive peptides. The bioactive peptides isolated from poultry by-products have biological properties that can be useful in the prevention of different metabolic diseases and hence, their consumption could be beneficial for human health. Such peptides can be used as nutraceuticals, and their inclusion as active components of functional food products is increasingly gaining attention.

Article Synopsis
  • A new species of leaf-toed gecko has been discovered on María Cleofas Island in the Tres Marías Archipelago, Mexico, supported by genomic and morphological data.
  • The new species exhibits distinctive traits such as a high count of tubercles and specific scale arrangements on its body.
  • Findings indicate that the island populations are genetically isolated from those on the mainland, emphasizing the need for further research into Mexico's island biodiversity.

Possible role of n-hexane as an endocrine disruptor in occupationally exposed women at reproductive age.

Toxicol Lett

May 2020

Health Sciences Division, University of Guanajuato, Campus León, Blvd. Puente del Milenio 1001. Fracción del Predio San Carlos, León Guanajuato, C.P 37670, Mexico. Electronic address:

Human exposure to n-hexane has been associated with subfertility and, experimentally, with a decrease in follicular development. In order to assess occupational exposure to n-hexane on ovarian function and gonadotropic hormones, we studied Mexican women labouring in a leather shoe factory (n = 34). Individual environmental levels for seven solvents, n-hexane included, were measured; also, urinary 2,5-hexanedione (2,5-HD) was determined.
