Most choices are complex and can be considered from a number of different perspectives. For example, someone choosing a snack may have taste, health, cost or any number of factors at the forefront of their mind. Although previous research has examined neural systems related to value and choice, very little is known about how mindset influences these systems. In the current study, participants were primed with Health or Taste while they made decisions about snack foods. Some neural regions showed consistent associations with value and choice across Health or Taste mindsets. Regardless of mindset, medial orbitofrontal cortex (MOFC) tracked value in terms of taste, regions in left lateral prefrontal cortex (LPFC) tracked value in terms of health, and MOFC and dorsal anterior cingulate were associated with choice. However, activity in other neural regions was modulated by the mindset manipulation. When primed with Taste, rostral anterior cingulate tracked value in terms of taste whereas left amygdala and left putamen were associated with choice. When primed with Health, right LPFC and posterior MOFC tracked value in terms of health. The findings contribute to the neural research on decision-making by demonstrating that changing perspectives can modulate value- and choice-related neural activity.

Biological vision systems simultaneously learn to efficiently encode their visual inputs and to control the movements of their eyes based on the visual input they sample. This autonomous joint learning of visual representations and actions has previously been modeled in the Active Efficient Coding (AEC) framework and implemented using traditional frame-based cameras. However, modern event-based cameras are inspired by the retina and offer advantages in terms of acquisition rate, dynamic range, and power consumption.

A reward shaping deep deterministic policy gradient (RS-DDPG) and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) path tracking algorithm is proposed to address the issues of low accuracy and poor robustness of target path tracking for robotic control during maneuver. RS-DDPG algorithm is based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) and designs a reward function to optimize the parameters of DDPG to achieve the required tracking accuracy and stability. A visual SLAM algorithm based on semantic segmentation and geometric information is proposed to address the issues of poor robustness and susceptibility to interference from dynamic objects in dynamic scenes for SLAM based on visual sensors.

Introduction: This study investigates Mandarin-speaking children's acquisition of aspirated/unaspirated voiceless consonants in terms of perception and production, to track children's developmental profile and explore the factors that may affect their acquisition, as well as the possible association between perception and production.

Methods: Mandarin-speaking children ( = 95) aged 3-5 and adults ( = 20) participated in (1) a perception test designed based on the minimal pairs of unaspirated/aspirated consonants in the quiet and noisy conditions respectively; (2) a production test where participants produced the target words, with syllable-initial consonants focusing on aspiration and non-aspiration. Six pairs of unaspirated/aspirated consonants in Mandarin were included.

Relying on composite nonlinear feedback, an output-feedback controller is robustly addressed in the singular models with uncertainties, disturbances and time-delays. For this purpose, an observer-based compensator is utilized to realize the purpose. In the presence of disturbance and uncertainty, it is demonstrated that the tracking error and the states of the overall system are ultimately bounded.

Latest clinical frontiers related to autism diagnostic strategies.

The diagnosis of autism is currently based on the developmental history, direct observation of behavior, and reported symptoms, supplemented by rating scales/interviews/structured observational evaluations-which is influenced by the clinician's knowledge and experience-with no established diagnostic biomarkers. A growing body of research has been conducted over the past decades to improve diagnostic accuracy. Here, we provide an overview of the current diagnostic assessment process as well as of recent and ongoing developments to support diagnosis in terms of genetic evaluation, telemedicine, digital technologies, use of machine learning/artificial intelligence, and research on candidate diagnostic biomarkers.
