A novel nucleic acid detection technique is described for the quantitative measurement of eukaryotic mRNA in biological samples. The procedure involves two steps: a hybridization reaction in solution with a biotinylated cDNA probe, and a conventional enzyme immunoassay that uses a monoclonal antibody for DNA.RNA hybrids to detect the specific mRNA.cDNA complexes. The method has comparable sensitivity to 32P-based methods and yields results that are quantitative and highly reproducible. Furthermore, the test can be performed using unfractionated cytoplasm without the need for extraction with organic solvents. This technique provides a rapid and quantitative method for studying changes in cellular mRNA levels, and it is suitable for testing large numbers of samples.

An accurate diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis (IA) in patients with underlying hematological malignancies relies heavily on galactomannan detection. In this study, we compared the VirCLIA chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) with the frequently used Platelia enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) on serum from hematology patients with suspected IA. Patients were categorized according to EORTC/MSGERC 2020 definitions into proven/probable IA and possible/no IA.

Understanding wildlife reproductive seasonality is crucial for effective management and long-term monitoring of species. This study investigates the seasonal variability of testosterone in male Pacific Coast Feeding Group (PCFG) gray whales, using an eight-year dataset (2016-2023) of individual sightings, drone-based photogrammetry and endocrine analysis of faecal samples. We analyzed the relationship between faecal testosterone levels and total body length (TL), body condition (body area index, BAI), sexual maturity and day of the year using generalized additive mixed models.

Background: Epiphora and secondary ocular surface damage are increasingly impairing the quality of life of people, particularly elderly women. We aimed to investigate the changes in tear cytokine and lactoferrin levels in postmenopausal women with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (PANDO) complicated with obstructed meibomian gland dysfunction (OMGD) and preliminary explore the pathological mechanisms of OMGD in patients with PANDO.
Methods: The prospective study involved 43 and 41 postmenopausal women with and without PANDO, respectively.

Background: The neurofilament light chain (NfL) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum as a marker of neuronal damage may be a potential biomarker of neuropsychiatric involvement in SLE (NPSLE).
Methods: 80 patients with SLE were included. We obtained paired serum and CSF samples from 48 patients (NPSLE n=32, non-NPSLE n=16) and 31 controls.

Introduction: Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is an infectious disease that imposes substantial economic burdens on small ruminants (SR) production. For Tanzania to develop efficient management and eradication plans, it is essential to comprehend the seroprevalence of PPR designated for global elimination by 2030.
Methodology: This study investigated the prevalence of PPR in animals kept under pastoral and agropastoral communities in Tanzania.
