Background/aims: To study the effects of water channel protein inhibitor acetazolamide on xenograft tumor growth of colon cancer in nude mice.
Methodology: Setting up human colon cancer model in nude mice, mice were randomly divided into two groups as experimental group and control group. Acetazolamide was given at a volume of 0.1mL per mice (40mg/kg/d, ig) in experimental group, while the same volume of sterile saline was given in control group (ig). After 21 days, protein and m-RNA levels of AQP-1 in tumor tissues from two groups were detected respectively by Western blot and RT-PCR to evaluate the treatment effects. AQP-1, VEGF and CD34 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry, simultaneously.
Results: Acetazolamide (40mg/kg/d, ig) significantly inhibited the xenograft tumor growth of colon cancer in nude mice. The inhibition rate was 88.28%. In comparison with the control group, AQP-1 protein and mRNA level were significantly reduced in the experimental group (p<0.01). AQP-1, VEGF and CD34 expression in experimental group were positively correlated between each other (p<0.01).
Conclusions: Acetazolamide can suppress the xenograft tumor growth by inhibiting the expression of AQP-1.

Purpose: In this study, we investigated the progression of high-grade dysplasia (HGD)/CRC in patients with hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes (HCSS) and concomitant inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs).
Methods: We described the natural history of a series of patients with confirmed diagnosis of hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes (HCCSs) and concomitant IBDs who were referred to the Hereditary Digestive Tumors Registry at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori of Milan.
Results: Between January 1989 and April 2024, among 450 patients with APC-associated polyposis and 1050 patients with Lynch syndrome (LS), we identified six patients with IBDs (five with UC, one with ileal penetrating CD) and concomitant HCCSs (five with LS, one with APC-associated polyposis).

The current work introduces the hybrid ensemble framework for the detection and segmentation of colorectal cancer. This framework will incorporate both supervised classification and unsupervised clustering methods to present more understandable and accurate diagnostic results. The method entails several steps with CNN models: ADa-22 and AD-22, transformer networks, and an SVM classifier, all inbuilt.

Ginseng peptides, small molecule active ingredients in ginseng, are mainly extracted naturally or synthesised chemically, but high costs and difficulties hinder further research. In this study, a ginseng hexapeptide FKEHGY, named antitumor peptide 0601 (AT0601) and its five tandem sequence repeats AT0605, were expressed in Bacillus subtilis WB600 for the first time, and the bioactivity study showed that the anticancer activity of AT0605 was even significantly higher than that of AT0601 for colon cancer CT26 cells, with IC50s of 16.82±1.

Premature drug release is the primary hindrance to the effective function of the lyso-thermosensitive liposomes (LTSLs) of doxorubicin (Dox), known as ThermoDox® for the treatment of cancer. Herein, we have optimized LTSLs by using a combination of phospholipids (PLs) with high transition temperatures (Tm) to improve the therapeutic outcome in an assisted ultrasound approach. For this, several Dox LTSLs were prepared using the remote loading method at varying molar ratios (0 to 90%) of DPPC (Tm 41°C) and HSPC (Tm 54.

Pyroptosis and macrophage pro-inflammatory activation play an important role in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression. However, the specific regulatory mechanisms remain unclear. We identified pyroptosis-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) based on the GSE4183 and GSE44861 datasets as well as EVenn database.
