Pathology, BLDE (Deemed to be University) Shri B.M. Patil Medical College, Hospital, and Research Centre, Vijayapura, IND.

Introduction Occupational health hazards are a significant concern for pathologists due to their unique work environment. These professionals face risks from prolonged microscope use, exposure to chemicals such as formalin, and handling sharp instruments, leading to issues such as musculoskeletal disorders and needlestick injuries. Addressing these hazards is crucial for their well-being and the overall efficiency of medical diagnostics.

Microbothriid (Monogenean) Infection and Treatment in Captive Blacktip Reef Shark ().

Microorganisms

December 2024

Laboratory of Aquatic Biomedicine, Research Institute for Veterinary Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University, Seoul 08826, Republic of Korea.

Unlike other microbothriid monogenean infections in elasmobranchs, limited information is available on the biology and treatment of . As parasitic infection with was found in 21 juvenile blacktip reef sharks () at the Lotteworld aquarium in Seoul, South Korea, we aimed to investigate the anatomical features and treatment protocols for in this study. The parasites were sampled and fixed in 10% neutral-buffered formalin, and examined using light and scanning electron microscopy.

Purpose: Immunohistochemical (IHC) and histochemical (HC) staining techniques are widely used on human brains that are post-fixed in formalin and stored in brain banks worldwide for varying durations, from months to decades. Understanding the effects of prolonged post-fixation, postmortem interval (PMI), and age on these staining procedures is important for accurately interpreting their outcomes, thereby improving the diagnosis and research of brain disorders afflicting millions of people worldwide.

Methods: In this study, we conducted both IHC and HC staining on the prefrontal cortex of postmortem human brains post-fixed for 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20 years.

: To address the unmet clinical needs in the treatment of epilepsy and pain, the continued development of more effective and safer anticonvulsants and analgesics is still necessary. Therefore, herein we report synthesis and antiseizure/antinociceptive evaluation of a focused series of 3-(benzo[b]thiophen-2-yl)pyrrolidine-2,5-dione derivatives. : The anticonvulsant properties were investigated in acute models of seizures, namely the maximal electroshock (MES), the 6 Hz (32 mA), and subcutaneous pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) seizure models, whereas analgesic activity was tested in the model of a tonic pain/formalin test and oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic pain (in CD-1-mice, i.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) constitute key pollutants in the environment, and exposure to them is associated with negative health impacts. The vigilant monitoring of these pernicious VOCs is imperative for their timely detection and for curtailing the likelihood of both immediate and prolonged exposure, thus safeguarding against the deterioration of environmental quality. In this study, porous PtRu nanoalloys are successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal method and innovatively integrated with SnO nanoparticles to significantly enhance the performance of gas sensors.
