Published: October 2011

We consider Joule heat release in a quantum wire joining two classical reservoirs under the action of a nonstationary periodic electric field. The rate of heat generation and its spatial distribution is discussed. The heat is spread over the lengths of electron mean free paths in the reservoirs. We find that the total rates of heat generation in both reservoirs that are joined by the nanostructure are the same.

Upcycling of photovoltaic waste graphite into high performance graphite anode.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering, Key Laboratory of Complex Nonferrous Metal Resources Clean Utilization, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming 650093 China. Electronic address:

High-value recycling of photovoltaic waste graphite (WG) is an effective path to achieve "carbon neutrality". However, the current most adopted methods are landfilling, incineration and leaching, which can lead to undesirable environmental contamination and waste of resources. Here, an energy-efficient and high-value flash recycling strategy is developed in which photovoltaic WG is converted to high-capacity and high-rate graphite anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in milliseconds.

The design of electrically conductive textiles appears to be a promising approach to combat the existing challenge of deaths caused by severe cold climates around the globe. However, reports on the scalable fabrication of tolerant conductive textiles maintaining a low electrical resistance with an ability for unperturbed and prolonged performance are scarce. Here, a breathable and wrappable water-repellent conductive textile (water-repellent CT) with electrothermal and photothermal conversion abilities at low external voltage and in weak solar light is introduced, respectively.

Crystalline organic semiconductors, recognized for their highly ordered structures and high carrier mobility, have emerged as a focal point in the field of high-performance optoelectronic devices. Nevertheless, the intrinsic unipolar properties, characterized by imbalanced hole and electron transport capabilities, have continuously represented a significant challenge in the advancement of high-performance crystalline thin-film organic light-emitting diodes (C-OLEDs). Here, a bipolar solid-solution thin film with a maintained crystal structure has been fabricated using 2-(4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)-1(3,5-difluorophenyl)-1H-phenanthro [9,10-d]imidazole (2FPPICz) and 4-(1-(3,5-difluorophenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-][1,10]phenanthrolin-2-yl)-N,N-diphenylaniline (2Fn) via a weak epitaxial growth (WEG) process, exhibiting nearly equivalent hole and electron mobilities (10-10 cm V s).

Thermal Analysis of Electromagnetic Induction Heating for Cylinder-Shaped Objects.

Electrophoresis

January 2025

School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Washington State University, Pullman, Washington, USA.

Induction heating is one of the cleanest and most efficient methods for heating materials, utilizing electromagnetic fields induced through AC electric current. This article reports an analytical solution for transient heat transfer in a three-dimensional (3D) cylindrical object under induction heating. A simplified form of Maxwell's equations is solved to determine the heat generation inside the cylinder by calculating the current density distribution within the body.

Hydrodynamic radius () is a descriptive metric of protein structure with the potential to impact drug development, disease diagnosis, and other important research areas of molecular biology. Common instrumental methods for molecular size characterization are disadvantageous due to high sample consumption, measurements made in non-physiological conditions, and/or inaccurate size determinations. Capillary Taylor dispersion analysis (TDA) is a molecular sizing method that utilizes nL sample volumes and achieves absolute size determination without calibration or comparison to standards.
