A nanoscale metal-semiconductor-metal photodetector with a 40 nm-thick GaAs absorbing layer has been studied numerically and experimentally. A gold nanowire array is the top mirror of a Fabry-Perot cavity and forms interdigitated Schottky contacts. Nearly perfect absorption is achieved in TE polarization. It is shown numerically that the gold nanowire array induces light absorption in GaAs nanowires with tiny sections (100 nm × 40 nm). High external quantum efficiency (η > 40 %) is demonstrated.

Silver nanowire (Ag NW)/gold nanosphere (Au NS) binary plasma films were prepared using plasma coupling between Ag NWs and Au NSs. The plasma films formed by combining these two noble metals showed better sensitivity for SERS detection with a minimum detection concentration of 10 M for R6G compared to pure Ag NWs or Au NSs. After rational optimisation of the substrate preparation process, the substrate showed good homogeneity, reproducibility and stability.

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a key parameter and critical role in cancer progression. However, for detection of IL-6 in colorectal cancer diagnosis, developing a sensitive biosensor is necessary and very important. In this paper, to enhance the sensitivity of IL-6 electrochemical biosensor, the electric field was used to orient arrangement of silver nanowires (AgNWs) to be free-standing AgNWs electrode.

Helical nanostructures have unique optical and mechanical properties, yet their syntheses had always been quite challenging. Various symmetry-breaking mechanisms such as chiral templates, strain-restriction and asymmetric ligand-binding have been developed to induce the helical growth at nanoscale. In this work, with neither chiral ligands nor templates, gold (Au) nanohelices were synthesized via a facile wet-chemical method, through an asymmetric Active Surface Growth facilitated by colloidal silica nanoparticles (NPs).

Single-entity-based sensing platform has many advantages for real-time assays, such as single-molecule analysis, or targets detection in confined environment. In this contribution, a new single Au nanowire (NW) - Au@Pt/Au nanoparticles (Au@Pt/Au NPs) conjugated system was established and used for the detection of thrombin by using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technique. This method was mainly based on electrostatic attraction between the capture (thrombin aptamer) and probe molecules (crystal violet, CV) on the surface of Au NW - Au@Pt/Au NPs conjugation, reducing the adsorption of CV molecules on conjugation surface, and resulting the decrease of SERS signals.

The production and distribution of 2,5-dimethylpyrazine (2,5-DMP), a key volatile flavor compound, are associated with the frying of skipjack tuna steaks. In this study, an intestinal villus-like chip was fabricated to quantitatively detect 2,5-DMP in multiphase systems based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The chip exhibited excellent SERS performance with an enhancement factor of 1.
