Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a widely used morphological imaging modality. Various contrast agents, which change localized optical properties, are used to extend the applicability of OCT, where intrinsic contrast is not sufficient. In this paper we propose the use of a dual-rod gold nano-structure as a polarization sensitive contrast agent. Using numerical simulation, we demonstrated that the proposed structure has tunable chiral response. Enhanced cross-section due to Plasmon resonance in gold nanoparticles, along with the chiral behavior can provide enhanced detection sensitivity. The proposed contrast agents may extend the applicability of OCT to the problems that require the molecular contrast with enhanced sensitivity.

Non-medicinal oral contrast in upper abdominal MRI for MR-guided radiotherapy: A scoping review.

Radiography (Lond)

January 2025

Radiotherapy, Leeds Cancer Centre, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, UK; Leeds Institute of Medical Research, University of Leeds, Leeds, UK; NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre, Leeds, UK.

Introduction: Using non-medicinal oral contrast agents may aid safe delivery of magnetic resonance image-guided (MR-guided) radiotherapy by improving the ability to visualise and avoid excessive radiation dose to adjacent bowel/stomach. This scoping review aims to map the literature on non-medicinal oral contrasts used in upper-abdominal diagnostic or therapeutic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to find potential candidates for employing in MR-guided radiotherapy and identify gaps in knowledge for further study.

Methods: A scoping review of non-medicinal oral contrast used in upper-abdominal MRI research followed a pre-defined protocol based on Arksey and O'Malley's framework.

Radiology Department, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Arkes Pavilion, 676 North St Clair Street, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60611, USA. Electronic address:

Cardiac MR imaging and pulmonary MR angiography (MRA) are important clinical tools for the assessment of pulmonary vascular diseases. There are evolving noncontrast and contrast-enhanced techniques to evaluate pulmonary vasculature. Pulmonary MRA is a feasible imaging alternative to CTA in pulmonary embolism detection.

Background: Ochratoxin A (OTA) is toxic secondary metabolites produced by fungi and can pose a serious threat to food safety and human health. Due to the high stability and toxicity, OTA contamination in agricultural products is of great concern. Therefore, the development of a highly sensitive and reliable OTA detection method is crucial to ensure food safety.

The aim of this study was to investigate the differences between nosocomial and community microorganisms isolated from patients with UTI by determining their bacterial profile, antibiotic resistance and ability to produce biofilms. A retrospective study, based on bacterial isolates from consecutive urine samples collected between January 2019 and December 2023, was conducted at a university hospital. The main pathogens isolated from both community and hospital samples were the same, but their frequency of isolation differed.
