The San Antonio District Dental Society serves approximately 850 dentists in a diverse, 14-county region of southwest Texas. San Antonio is a large metropolitan area, with a major medical center and dental school. The city is also a popular convention destination, regularly hosting the Texas Dental Association and more recently hosting the American Dental Association and the American Association of Dental Schools meetings. The rural and poor areas of the district have prompted the district to sponsor a full offering of outreach and community oral health services programs. The district is especially proud of its relationships with young dentists, including them in the society's monthly meetings and governance structure and maintaining an active mentoring program.

Intracranial electrical kilohertz stimulation has recently been shown to achieve similar therapeutic benefit as conventional frequencies around 140 Hz. However, it is unknown how kilohertz stimulation influences neural activity in the mammalian brain. Using cellular calcium imaging in awake mice, we demonstrate that intracranial stimulation at 1 kHz evokes robust responses in many individual neurons, comparable to those induced by conventional 40 and 140 Hz stimulation in both the hippocampus and sensorimotor cortex.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disease characterized by severe organ damage and lacking curative treatment. While various immune cell types, especially dysfunctional B and T cells and neutrophils, have been related with disease pathogenesis, limited research has focused on the role of monocytes in SLE. Background: ADAS-3D software elaborates cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images to obtain a quantitative evaluation of dense scar and border zone (BZ), including BZ channels, which can be useful for ventricular tachycardia ablation and risk stratification. However, most prior reports with ADAS-3D used flexible thresholds (60% ± 5% and 40% ± 5% of maximum pixel signal intensity) to define dense scar and BZ. The impact of such variations of the threshold values on the measurements obtained with ADAS-3D is unknown.
