Distortions in the porphyrin core from planarity can trigger a unique structure-property relationship, imparting its basicity, chemical stability, redox potential, and excited-state energetics, among other properties. The colour change promoted by such distortion is signed by red shifts in its electronic absorption spectra. The adsorption of guest -substituted free-base porphyrin species onto inorganic hosts, such as clay minerals (layered aluminium or magnesium silicates), is known to further promote colour changes.

A novel detection technique is introduced that offers sensitive and reliable ochratoxin A (OTA) detection. The method leverages the etching of gold nanorods (AuNRs) stabilized by hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) using the oxidized form of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl benzidine sulfate (TMB), creating a susceptible multicolor visual detection system for OTA. The visual detection is enabled by Mg-assisted DNAzyme catalysis combined with the catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) signal amplification strategy.

Osmotic energy, a renewable clean energy, can be directly converted into electricity through ion-selective membranes. Inspired by the magnesium porphyrin (Mg) in plant chlorophyll, which absorbs vis-light and promotes photoelectric conversion, we demonstrate a Mg array membrane, realizing vis-light-enhanced ion transport regulation ability and osmotic energy conversion. The Mg arrays are self-assembled by a Mg-cored block copolymer under the coordination effect of block copolymer self-assembly and Mg π-π stacking, providing chloride-selective transport channels.

Shade avoidance syndrome (SAS) is an important measure of how plants respond to shade. Shade conditions are characterized by low light density and low red-to-far-red light (R/FR) ratio. However, low light intensity and low R/FR ratio play considerable and diverse roles in SAS.

The healing of infected wounds is challenging for patients. In this paper, a hybrid hydrogel with strong tissue adhesion, self-healing, and antibiosis without antibiotics was developed as a dressing to promote the healing of infected chronic wounds. Acrylamide (PAM) was polymerized with ,-methylene bis(acrylamide) (BIS) as the substrate, and self-assembled nanoparticles of carboxymethyl chitosan and chlorin e6 (CMCS/Ce6 NPs) trapped with magnesium (Mg) ions were dispersed in the hydrogel substrate.
