Soluble lanthanide-transition-metal clusters LnCo as effective molecular electrocatalysts for water oxidation.

Chem Commun (Camb)

April 2021

Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Energy Materials, State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces and Department of Chemistry, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University, Xiamen 361005, China.

Here we report for the first time soluble lanthanide-transition-metal clusters LnCo (Ln = Eu, Gd and Dy) as effective homogeneous water oxidation electrocatalysts. The stable 48-metal LnCo clusters show an effective water oxidation activity under acidic conditions because of the synergistic effect between lanthanide and transition metals in O-O bond formation.
