Atomically precise nanoclusters can be assembled into ordered superlattices with unique electronic, magnetic, optical and catalytic properties. The co-crystallization of nanoclusters with functional organic molecules provides opportunities to access an even wider range of structures and properties, but can be challenging to control synthetically. Here we introduce a supramolecular approach to direct the assembly of atomically precise silver nanoclusters into a series of nanocluster‒organic ionic co-crystals with tunable structures and properties.

Yeast community in the first-round fermentation of sauce-flavor Baijiu: Source, succession and metabolic function.

Food Res Int

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Industrial Biotechnology of Ministry of Education, School of Biotechnology, Jiangnan University, Wuxi 214122, PR China; Innovation Center for Advanced Brewing Science and Technology, College of Biomass Science and Engineering, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610065, PR China. Electronic address:

Yeasts play a crucial role in determining the quality and yield of sauce-flavor Baijiu, yet the source, succession, and metabolic functions of the yeast community in fermented grains during stacking fermentation remains unclear. In this study, amplicon sequencing combined with solid-state fermentation was used to investigate the structure and function of yeast community during the first-round fermentation of sauce-flavor Baijiu. The richness and diversity of yeast community increased throughout fermentation, with 83.

March 2025

Biochemical Engineering Research & Process Development Centre (BERPDC), Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Sector-39A, Chandigarh 160036, India; Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), Ghaziabad 201002, India. Electronic address:

Hydrogels mimic natural environments due to their hydrated, polymeric networks which are beneficial for microorganism growth. The substantial water content maintains a consistently moist environment, and porous structure of hydrogel promotes efficient nutrient transfer and cell distribution, offering advantages over traditional liquid bioreactors. While their application in cell immobilization for bioconversion is well-known, their use as a solid-state fermentation matrix remains unexplored.

Ultrasensitive Characterization of Native Bacterial Biofilms via Dynamic Nuclear Polarization-Enhanced Solid-State NMR.

University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Structural Biology, 3501 5th Ave., Biomedical Science Tower 3, Room 2044, 15261, Pittsburgh, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Bacterial biofilms are major contributors to persistent infections and antimicrobial resistance, posing significant challenges to treatment. However, obtaining high-resolution structural information on native bacterial biofilms has remained elusive due to the methodological limitations associated with analyzing complex biological samples. Solid-state NMR (ssNMR) has shown promise in this regard, but its conventional application is hindered by sensitivity constraints for unlabeled native samples .

Insight into the Origin of Second Harmonic Generation and Rational Design in the Metal Halide Borates.

Inorg Chem

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fuzhou 350002, Fujian, P. R. China.

Metal halide borates are promising candidates for high-performance nonlinear optical (NLO) applications, yet the origins of their second harmonic generation (SHG) properties remain unclear. Using atom response theory combined with density functional theory calculations, this study investigates why halogen substitution leads to distinctly different SHG responses in halide monoborates (PbBOX) versus halide pentaborates (PbBOX). We find that the SHG origins vary between these two families due to differences in the strength of the Pb-X interactions.
