It is popularly known that people who entered into the ground-zero area shortly after the atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki suffered from various syndromes similar to acute radiation effects. External exposures from neutron-induced radionuclides in soil have recently been reassessed based on DS02 calculations as functions of both distance from the hypocentres and elapsed time after the explosions. Significant exposure due to induced radiation can be determined for those who entered the area within 1000 m from the hypocentres shortly after the bombing. Although it was impossible to track the action of each of the survivors over the days or weeks following the bombings in order to make reliable dose estimates for their exposures to soil activation or fallout, four individuals among those early entrants were investigated here to describe useful information of what happened shortly after the bombing.

Background: The attractiveness of general practice (GP) is increasing, as is evident in its growing popularity among students and the sharp rise in specialist certifications. However, in view of the future challenges at the GP level of care, there is a shortage of young doctors. It would thus be desirable if postgraduate training could be completed quickly, particularly in this area.

Background: In ventricular tachycardia (VT), optimal substrate mapping strategies identifying arrhythmogenic sites are not established.
Objectives: This study sought to evaluate multidirectional pacing on the distribution of specific conduction and repolarization metrics to localize re-entrant VT sites in a porcine infarct model.
Methods: Substrate maps were created in 13 pigs with chronic myocardial infarction using the Advisor HD Grid (Abbott) during right ventricular (RV), left ventricular, biventricular pacing (BIV), and sinus rhythm (SR).

Ventricular pre-excitation (VP) is a cardiac disorder characterized by the presence of an accessory pathway (AP) that bypasses the atrioventricular node (AVN), which, although often asymptomatic, exposes individuals to an increased risk of re-entrant supraventricular tachycardias and sudden cardiac death (SCD) due to rapid atrial fibrillation (AF) conduction. This condition is particularly significant in sports cardiology, where preparticipation ECG screening is routinely performed on athletes. Professional athletes, given their elevated risk of developing malignant arrhythmias, require careful assessment.

Microfluidic valves play a key role within microfluidic systems by regulating fluid flow through distinct microchannels, enabling many advanced applications in medical diagnostics, lab-on-chips, and laboratory automation. While microfluidic systems are often limited to planar structures, 3D printing enables new capabilities to generate complex designs for fluidic circuits with higher densities and integrated components. However, the control of fluids within 3D structures presents several difficulties, making it challenging to scale effectively and many fluidic devices are still often restricted to quasi-planar structures.
